  • Staples – Good service is in our history!

    *sigh*

Why’d it have to be so hard?!

Not that it’s very fair, my patience is really thin today; I was cursing myself for dropping a fork, but that’s what tiredness & hayfever & an essay to write does to me (about to get on with it, btw).

But I looked on the Staples Website, there was the printer I wanted. Woot I thought.

Off I went, cash (actual hard money cash) in hand, to Staples in Bristol city centre. Looked at the aisle of printers, couldn’t see the one I wanted. Head to Customer (dis)service desk – ask the General Manager “have you got this printer in stock”. Looks puzzled, checks website, states: “Ah, that’s one you can only get from the online store. See, this number here indicates it’s an online purchase only. We can’t even get that one…”

    Bugger.

Wander round store with Trey, Nikki, Lauren, ‘meriKate. Oops, second row of printers. There’s the one I want. But none out on the shelves… Ask random store bloke – and yes, they’ve got one. They’ve got one, and it’s now mine. And there, there on the shelf is the Duplex unit for it too! Fuck yeah. Put them behind the till to wait for me to finish looking round.

Go and try to buy printer. Present mostly cash, but ‘cos I’m buying the duplexer too, I have to find an extra 11 quid – which I put on my debit card. So, Cash, Card and Store Loyalty Points card.

Takes money. Puts part payment in. Asks if I wanted to use the store card. Yes, obviously, that’s why I got it out…. Oh, can’t do that at this point in the transaction. Has to be done first. Take money off card. Refund money onto card….wait for manager to authorise refund….give back card. Ask if I want to pay on the card…. (well, no, you just refunded it onto that card so I could wear it as a frickin’ hat). Finally, get payment through, pick up stuff and walk out door….

    …. alarm goes off….

GAH! Is it any wonder I like buying stuff online?!

But, it does rock. It does duplex, it’s kinda old-fashioned-black-computer-stylee. The quality of modern printers terrifies me, the plastic’s all flexy and gnarly. If you put too much paper in it just doesn’t feed it through (I have no idea what 150 sheets looks like). But it’s way nicer than my old 840c and it does duplex. Paper go in. Paper come out. Paper go in. Paper come out…. Woo :-) Funkatious.

  • Bleh, summer

So summer’s arrived, and for all my whinging about wanting summer to arrive right now I’m hating it.

My hayfever is incredibly bad this year. Bad enough that I’m seriously starting to wonder if I’m going to have to go back to wearing glasses/putting drops in my eyes. I awoke this morning to a feeling remenicent of having someone gently sandpapering your eyeballs all night.

I’m still sneezy and my eyes are itchy as fuck despite my nice healthy dose of loritadine. This might be being exacerbated by tiredness from working nights. I sincerely hope it is, since I can’t afford new glassess, and my old ones totally destroy my self confidence.

I also don’t like riding my motorbike in them…

In other news I’m off to buy a new printer and my old one’s been Freecycled, bloody quickly too! Posted this morning about it and reserved this afternoon to be picked up Tuesday…..

  • *vom*

    Bleuch.

So, it’s the day after my last night and I feel ropey as fuck. I’ve gained a mouth ulcer – my nose is blocked, and my legs keep trying to deposit me on the floor.

Still, I’m managing to keep down my lunch, which is good.

What’s less good is the sudden and spontaneous death of my printer. Overnight, it seems, it went from working fine to making very unpleasant noises. Bah.

Okay. So now I have to write this essay, without falling asleep on the keyboard. Heh. his is one of the hardest essays I’ve had to write, frankly I find it scarily difficult. I do wonder if I’m doing something horrendously wrong to make it seem so hard, but there we go. Anyway, back to it.

  • Mmm, pizza and icecream… for breakfast.

I’m trying to confuse my brain. It’s not really working. Attempts to sleep today were foiled by my body’s insistance that it was:
    a: sunny
    b: day-time
c: (despite repeated instruction to the contrary) not tired.

  • Stranger things have happened

1000 words in. Long pause to write notes on the next segment.

This week I’ve got rid of: My dads’ Pentax camera, my Harmonium, the Rev Counter originally bought for a GCSE project, and my pillow.

    My pillow?

Yes. I’ve had the same pillow since I was about oooh, 7… and, well, I liked it. I was used to it’s fluffy featherey goodness. The fact it was a bit hideous to look at, and probably way older than me, well, it never really occured to me to change it. When I learned that 10% of a 6 year old pillow can be dust mites/faeces/dead mites I did think “eek, I really should change my pillow”. And I started to look out for a new feather pillow. I like feather pillows, they mould to your head :-)

But then I kind of lost momentum having not found one.

Until a couple of days ago when Trey pointed out that I needed to change my pillow, very enthusiastically, and so my pillow went; replaced by my ‘guest’ poly/hollow fibre-filled pillow. And uh, I slept fine.

So I chucked it away. Along with my platform boots (which I loved, but noticed they’d started to split and since they’re crappy pseudo-suede-plastic)….

And yes, my hayfever has been better the last few days. Not gone, no, but a bit better.

Slowly, slowly I’m clearing my life out.

  • Pride – in the name of music

So, I’ve got to do a playlist for Pride, well, actually I’ve got to do an essay, but I’m listening to my playlist for our paradey bit in Pride. It’s got to be roughly sixties, but I’ve kinda wandered a bit in the name of making it a wee bit longer (read: it was too short). Now, I’m sure there’s loads of great 60s paradey type songs that I’ve missed out – I mean, I’ve got like 200 60s CDs, but I can’t think of the titles of the tracks I want. Anything people think should definately not be in there, or definately should be in there and isn’t? I know some of the stuff is definately very 70s not 60s, and some stuff just kinda sounds 60s-y, but… Well, hey, suggestions on a postcard…

  • Shiny new upgrade

So – I needed a break, so I’ve upgraded my site a bit.

    And lo, it does work.

Still getting database errors since my web-hosters moved their database server to a new machine. Will have to look into it. Essay proceeding slowly. Still tired :-)

  • Flashey-Flashey-Flashey-Flashey

So, the strobes arrived today from China; which has reawoken my “oooh, finish the sign for pride”. So um, need to finish essay becomes more urgent as desire to finish sign is strong :-)

I did however just check that a: they work and b: you can kinda see them behind the orange of the plexi-glass. Both of which are true – although if it’s a bright sunny day, which is apparently likely, then the flash will probably be invisible. But hey.

At least I’ve started on the essay now. Which is always the worst part. More to read. Way more to write.

  • My main problem…

….with this essay is, to put it bluntly, that I think it’s all bollocks.

It’s a lot of people who have far too much time, and presumably money, writing an awful lot of useless-managementeze with little or no value. And now I’ve got to add to that pool. Of course, mine won’t be nearly so well respected, but it’ll almost certainly say as little in as many words ;-)

  • Phew-ee [No. 3 in a series of 3]

    So,

‘s been a loooong day. Not a particularly hard one, but with my hayfever not entirely under control – and really unfair considering that it’s not even sunny! ;-) – I am tired. I think some of it comes from yesterday. I did get home and just fall asleep yesterday; I was not to put too finer point on it, knackered.
