My dad is in hospital again. He’s been in hospital for a couple of days now; and is very ill. A stent (thing used to open up the bowel when it’s closed off by cancer), one of many in his bowel, has pierced the bowel – meaning that semi-digested food can get into his abdomen.

    This is bad.

    It’s very bad.

The outcome of this, if left unrepaired is basically a huge, huge infection and death.

But my dad is to weak at the moment to repair it; which is what he wants to do. He’s terrified of death, it scares him so very, very much that he will take any chance at life.

    They’ve given him 3 options:

    – Die quickly and painfully (do nothing, have some antibiotics)
    – Die slowly and painfully (put in a drain to try to reduce the chance of a quick infection, have antibiotics)
    – Have a large operation, which it’s quite likely will fail due to the extent of the cancer (it needs a section of completely cancer free bowel to work), and where there’s a good chance you’ll die on the table.

He’s chosen the last choice, which is I guess what he wants. I want to go and see them, to be there at this time, but my mum won’t let me. I don’t want him to die when I’m not there.

And my mum… what will she do?

  • And on it goes

So, I took today off sick. Something, perhaps the chilli-dogs last night, or the huge quantity of cheese didn’t agree with me… Spent most of the day doing a website for some friends; which was silly, I should’ve been working.

Still feeling a bit grotty for no known reason. My stomach feels very acidy – it has done all day – I took some ‘tums’ earlier, but they’ve not really helped. I think it’s probably me stressing about stuff that’s doing it. I’ve still got loads of work to do before the end of the month (hey, yes, I should have been working) and money’s been a tad on the short side. I definately shouldn’t really have done pride.

But there you go, you make your decisions and live with them.

My desk has degenerated into piles of stuff that should have been done again. Bleh.

  • Abandoned…[3: Urinal]

Okay, I don’t have an obsession with Gents Loos, although it might look that way…

  • Abandoned…[2]

I’ve always had a facination with abandonded places, thought it was a bit odd to be honest, no one else seemed to be quite as enthralled as me with peeling paintwork, rusting struts and dark, dank places…

But this place is none of those things. This abandoned (copper, I think, either copper or tin) mine in Coniston (in the Lake district (UK)) was last operational around the 1930s and since then it’s remoteness and the the climate there have enabled it to gently collapse without too much help from passing people. The mine workings cover the mountain, there are little openings, some of which end where they’ve collapsed, and some of which wend their way into the moutain; albeit with sudden, gaping maws into which unwary explorers fall.

This section of the mine workings has clearly been stripped of the copper from the motors/generators, and has then been left to nature’s destructive power. There will, probably, be more to follow. I’ve not developed the film shots from our time there, these are just the digital shots….

  • Past few days [catchup post]

So, uh, Thursday was Treys Birthday. Which rocked.

We headed up north, to my spiritual home (which, incidentally, is not dodgy); Birmingham. Remembering from oh-so-many trips up there and when I lived there I expected moderately bad traffic on the motorway. So; off we went incredibly early; and we arrived…. incredibly early. No traffic at all.

It’s really bizzare; it’s another place that although the detail has changed the rhythm is the same, if you get what I mean. (more…)

  • Abandoned…

So, because of my job I can’t really (or am very wary of) explore abandoned buildings, but that doesn’t mean I can’t take pictures of the outside…

So, starting small, this is an abandoned toilet block in Birmingham, UK.

  • Against the odds

Today’s been a bit of a day not in so far as being bad, just being generally a bit challenging. I’ve also still got lots to do for pride; so I’m a bit, well, ansy.

  • Night and Day

    Lord it’s tiring these nights/days.

And to be honest my last night of nights sucked. Sucked and was truly crappy. (more…)

  • Meh

I’ve just discovered that hitting undo in Audacity one too many times… undoes opening the file. Bugger.

  • Form-ation filling

    So, two forms down….

The NHS Bursary form for next year, all done, ready to be sent off. It went like this:

    Nil
    Nil
    Nil
    Nil
    Nil
    Nil
    Nil
    Nil
    ….

    :-)

I’ve also found the ‘agreed valuation’ for my minor, which I’d not done, having somehow filed it without filling it in (woo, that was clever). I paid me bills yesterday… I’m slowly catching up with the old uni work. Eventually I might have everything done!

Getting up at half 3 was clearly a good plan…
