  • RECOVERY!

The problem with getting up early is it means you have to wait for the rest of the world to find out what your day is going to be like.

In other news I spent last night sorting out the bits for Rebecca for Pride. As I’m sure I’ve mentioned, Rebecca’s going to be in the Pride parade – assuming I can actually get the carb sorted* by then. In the mean time I’ve been knocking together the props for Rebecca. I am dead chuffed with how it looks so far… I think it’s going to work at least as well I hoped :-)

    * She’s running with the carb off the 1098 engine which makes her a touch breathless and probably means she’s running very lean :-/

  • Another tedious video

for you to all watch now, bitches! Or uh, more politely, it’s there, please go watch and uh, yeah. It’s kinda car-ey so if you’re not into that go and watch 7 minutes into the future.

  • New Video [teaser]

I’m uploading it right this moment… Oooh, you lucky people. Give it an hour….

  • [subliminal]Buy Kate DDR400 Memory [/subliminal]

So my copy of Premiere 6.5 arrived today, and shiny it is too. Installed and well, whatdyaknow it renders the video first time. Not only that, but tweaking settings on the vid to render it cuter and smaller – that works too!

Lord alive, will wonders never cease.

But it’s slow. (Nearly) Every time I fiddle with anything the little ‘updating playlist’ window pops up and pain and torment is mine to enjoy. I’m actually typing this while waiting for it to update the playlist. Which is a shame, ‘cos it looks like it has the features of Premiere that I liked, but with the huge benefit of actually working.

I just want to tweak this video a bit, putting back some of the stuff I removed attempting to make it render on 5.1c. It is painfully slow though. I think it must want more memory. It’s using 400 Mb, and my machine’s only got 360, so that’s not good. Unfortunately I bought [some] of the stuff for Pride and that was 20 quid today. So, uh, not quite as cheap as intended; so I can’t, definately can’t, justify 25 quid on 512Mb of DDR 400 SDRAM from Scan… :(

One of the things I’m *trying* to do is get the sound-level a bit more uniform thoughout this video. Which is difficult to find enthusiasm for when it just takes….hours….to….adjust….everything….

I’m also beginning to think my harddisk is making ‘odd’ noises. Which is ‘worrying’.

I don’t think it and premiere are friends.

The lipsync also seems a bit off, but I can’t figure out why. It’s all lined up nicely in the editor and it’s correct in the editor. I fear this might just be an effect of using a 5.1c file on 6.5. I’ve yet to test whether it can directly import my AVIs from the camera, which’d save a whole bundle of time and also improve the quality marginally.

  • It’s all coming up dandelions

    Not *quite* roses.

But my financial situation, on receiving my bank/credit card statement doesn’t seem quite as bleak as it did a few days ago. If I get my NHS Bursary through this, or even next week, then I might actually be able to swing round things so that:

    – I’m paying my rent on time
    – I’m paying my credit card bill on time
    – I can actually buy some food

Which will be important, ‘cos with Nikki and ‘meriKate moving out I won’t be able to get away with going shopping once a month. Which has been really bloody helpful these past few months – just stocking up on the odds and sods I like that they don’t buy (well, they don’t shop at lidl so how could they?! ;-) ).

  • Pre-mired

    So I made a video. I can’t export it.

I can’t *show* anyone what I’ve done, because premier 5.1 (now 5.1c, thanks to an update I managed to locate) can’t actually *render* video. It crashes randomly. If I’m *in* the room it will almost invariably make it as far as ‘about 5 minutes remaining’. Unfortunately this spans several possible video clips – none of which have any actual problems with them.

My usual system of tweaking positions and things isn’t working, because *normally* it reliably crashes at one point. Now it’s just crashing whenever it feels like it. I think this is the last video I’ll ever attempt to produce using premier. I dunno what other windows-based video editors there are, but I’m going to have to find an alternative.

  • …and shockingly it’s still crap

So I thought to myself… I’ll have a play with the video. Did a funky opening sequence. Did a bunch of other cool stuff, and then it started. The curse of Premier 5.1. Crash. Splutch. Crash. Won’t load. Won’t save. Won’t work. Crash. Crash. Reboot. Crash. Crash.

    Fuck.

  • Ultimately it boils down to this

Monday. 1300. Me in a bank.

    Bancruptcy or a future.

I can do this if they’ll help me for a year. But if they won’t then I’ll be swimming in a stream of shit for 7 years.

    Fuck I’m scared.

    So fucking scared.

I want my life. I want my cosmopolitan life with fucking eating out, with going out, with seeing my friends, with a FUCKING HOUSE. With my partner. I’m so scared that on monday they’re going to put that off for another 7 years. 7 years of living like a fucking student in a house that’ll never belong to me (us) and with no fucking credit to buy things. How did I end up here.

I just hope to goddess that next week is a ‘good’ week, not a bad one.

If he’s convicted, incidentally, can I sue the person who hurled abuse at me? Anyone know?

  • There’s only one problem with that plan…

So, to relax I decided to do a bit of playlist creation for Pride. And then I played with ShoutCAST with the cunning plan that by virtue of some networking we could stream the music across across the various machines, and thus have a ‘radio station’ playing from several of the cars, all simultaneously playing the same tune.

Unfortunately, what I didn’t twig until experiementation commenced was that… it doesn’t bloody sync does it. The machine that’s *streaming* is way ahead of the machines being streamed to. And the machines being streamed to? Well, it takes them different amounts of time to perform track changes and decode stuff so…. they end up out of sync on track changes anyway. Anyone any suggestions (other than the one-server, multi-client, make one 3 hour long track….)

  • Is it me?

Is it my organisation that’s killing me – or my lack of it?

Is it my desire to be a nurse?

Is it trying to do a degree, trying to sort out Regolith, trying to keep a an MZ and a Morris Minor going without the cash for basic repairs?

Is it living in a house that’s way beyond my means?

I dunno. I’m not down, don’t think that I’m down. It’s been an odd day, watching season 2 of the L word – I’ve got one episode left, apparently, the finale of the L word Season 2 – which I’m really desparate to watch, but haven’t got yet. (no spoilers, I promise (to be fair, my only spoilers were totally false ;-) )) (more…)
