  • Idea (like Ikea, but different)

So, I’ve got one of these kicking about in my parents garage. I’ve also got my dad’s incomplete 2600 tone generator (and a pulse one, but that ‘s no use).

What I’m thinking, and those who are cunning will be ahead of me here…

Rip the guts out of the phone that I was intending to use to make a tone generator for my dial phone, place inside the 2600 tone generator case. Modify that AB Coinbox so it works on the modern phone system (anyone got a link for that?) and connect, permanently, the tone generator. And thus I’ll have a A-B payphone with a tone generator; iyswim. Which would rock.

  • Prodding Unsuccessful & History Meme

I just spent an unsuccessful evening prodding a Denon UD-M50 bookshelf amp. It looks fairly new, but it’s got something majorly wrong with it. The thing doesn’t even reach standby. Fuses all fine, power reaching the circuits required, so I reckon an IC or a mini-teeny-fuse-that-doesn’t-look-like-a-fuse has gone. It’s dead, I think. Which is a shame. It wasn’t what I thought it was, and nor was it fixable. So it’ll probably go in the bin. *feh*.

    Anyway, here’s that history meme…. (more…)

  • BSG Spoilers and more Vinyl

So, the fucked up and failed to send me a record. I complained. No reply. Then I complained though paypal, and y’know what, I got a single through the post today… accompanied by *another*, free, single. Woot!

Of course, the one problem is despite 300k of resistors, it’s still distorting. I’m beginning to consider that the ‘phono’ input on that amplifier is no-such-thing, but instead a proprietory phono intended only for whatever record deck was meant to be with it.

    *Sigh*

At any rate, I’m picking up a freecycle Denon amp this evening, I hope, so that might rock.

I also picked up my prescription, I’d forgotten to collect it on Saturday, so yesterday was conducted at half dose. Fortunately my lecture finished at 1130 so I was able to pick up my tablets and have my morning one. Sanity rules! :-)

I’ve got enough of my state sponsored drug habit to take my nice shiny drugs to ‘merkia. They’re not interesting drugs, just maintain my endocrine system in some degree of a useful state; and kill my allergies a bit. I’ve only got one pack of the allergy tablets which is annoying. £19.50 for flipping tablets. Nominal prescription charge my *arse*.

Actually, I didn’t feel too bad for missing one tablet. Meh. Might be worth cutting down for the sake of my knackered liver

And yeah, so, I watched the second half of the second season of Battlestar Galactica today, the bastards! (more…)

  • 400 Miles, Lots of People, 1 Meet

So, this weekend we’ve had Onne here to stay (actually he’s still akip in the spare room); for the purpose of attending the Morris Minor Owners Club Website Rally. Basically an excuse for (some of) the message board users to put names to faces, cars to name, and faces to cars. Or something.

Anyway, this year it was over at Stondon Transport Museum, and so, with Onne in tow (he’s flown over here, now that’s dedication); Me and Rebecca took John and Onne up to the Rally. The only slight problem being that it was 160 miles away.

  • Bristol North Baths (Again)

Well, okay, here’s some photos. Well, quite a lot of photos:

Gallery One – these are shots taken about 2 weeks ago, interior and fire escape, with a couple of exterior shots thrown in. In one shot you can *just* make out the glass roof they’ve covered with a hideous false ceiling.

Gallery Two – these are shots taken about a few days ago and are mostly of the pump room – again though I’ve wandered off and taken some external shots, again trying to get something good of the chimney.

For those of you not sick of it….!

  • Urbex Magazines

    So, I like urbexing.

I don’t do it much, because as it happens I like my job, a lot. And my job would be at risk if I got caught trespassing. So, how is it that it’s only today that I’ve found this?

Mind, I had actually heard of it before.

Sadly though, it appears the editor and founder of the magazine died of cancer; deaths from cancer are now… difficult. Particularly ‘young’ deaths from cancer. It seems wrong. Entirely wrong.

If anyone fancies buying me the full set of back issues or indeed the book, then please, go right ahead.

  • In much the same way as my mind works…

    … I found this.

[EU Pack] [Children’s BBC Website] [About the BBC] [John Peel Day] [Websites about John Peel]….

….The John Peel Sweet Eating Game.

John Peel, you rocked. G’luck wherever you are now, and I hope you’ve found something you’ve not heard before.

  • Bleh

It’s another one of those ‘day’ thingies.

I keep almost working, but not quite getting there. I tried to setup my IM thing today. Everything ‘cept AOL is now back and working. pyoorkate, generally. kate@linuxgrrls.org for MSN – that mail address doesn’t work anymore incidentally, hence it’s unmunged state.

    Found this.

    AutoSoviet Picture of MZ Girlee

Anyone want to say MZ’s aren’t a dyke thing now? Anyone? No? Good.

I managed, also, to actually make an omlette today. A real omlette that looks like an omlette, and not like munged cooked egg. So Ra for me. Basically.

    Blah.

    I feel very blah.

  • Is it bad….

…to look at Canada as a possible place to live?

After another staggering 2.5% pay offer (less than inflation) – I think that any imaginary hope that the NHS might be funded sufficently to actually pay it’s staff something near what they’re worth; or even similarly to other public service professions, has now faded.

Canada’s always been on my list of possible places to live. It’s almost Alaska (for Trey…) and it’s got a decent public healthcare system – which my morals would allow me to go work in. So… Hrm. The possibility exists. I wonder what importing a car is like to Canada…. And bikes…. Hrm.

  • The Last One Standing

So, I got up this morning rather late, with every intention of going swimming. Having asked to borrow 2 quid of my beloved yesterday so that I could go, I then forgot to ask her for it today…

…so I spent about half an hour wandering around the house picking up the small change from everywhere. And y’know what, it added up to exactly the price of swimming. I particularly wanted to go today to get some shots of the pump room at Bristol North, again, closure forcing me into action.

Unfortunately, by the time I set off the traffic was bad, and by the time I got there it was school’s swimming only – and the bloke I need to talk to about the pump room wasn’t there (he’ll be back later). So I’ll have to head back in a few hours…

So, I thought ‘what the hell, I’ll drop in the photos from last time, ‘cos then I’ll be able to see if I want to re-take any of them’ (quite likely as I forgot my tripod and was doing my best human tripod-lean-camera-against-things impression). So I walked down to the photo-store on Gloucester Road… and about 200 yards from the shop realised I didn’t have the damn film with me, it was sat in the car.

So…Attempt two, I walked up, now feeling guilty I moved my car from the Pool carpark to the free carpark the other side of the pool, grabbed the film and headed down again. Got to the shop, and their frigging machine is out of order for the next two three days. What is it with this place?!

So, I decided not to spend money I don’t have, and headed home.

Of course, I was considering utilising one of my mail-order photo envelopes. But I’ve realised they’re only cheap enough if I’m getting lots of films done at once :-/

    Blah.
