    TMW – The modern world.

Where do I fit in to it? Well, I don’t – not really; which is odd for a girl of the “computer age”. It’s funny for someone so in love with technology to hate it with quite such a passion – and to want to so strongly separate myself from the world in which I exist.

  • Why am I writing a post?

I’m tired, I guess. I have no particular idea why; I got up a bit later than usual and went swimming, I did swim more continuously than usual and I also did almost no backstrokey swimming – lots of front crawl and butterfly – and a bit of the old underwater doobry.

And then, it a shock move, my friend rang. I kinda didn’t expect her to – given that it’s a year and a half since we’ve seen each other and, well, I was suspecting that this was a ‘nice’ way of saying ‘no, bugger off’ – but hey, today we got together for a afternoon’s chill out and chat; which was, to use an awful word – really nice. No, seriously, it was. It was good just to sit and chat to someone who’s not a member of my ‘group of friends’ kinda thing.

Yeah, then I had a bunch of phonecalls, I think I’ve had more phonecalls today than I normally get in a week! And finally I dealt with my University’s usual level of competence; they’ve sent me something which needs to be returned by the 19th of August – and it’s arrived today – with a second class pre-paid envelope. Handily I’m going past the uni tomorrow morning, so I’ll drop it in by hand.

Anyway. I’ve started (heh) reading the EU requirement papers for the Child pack – which I’m hoping to get finished by the end of the week, or early next week. Then on to Mental Health, and finally Maternity. The fun never ends around here, does it. Ne’r mind.

Anyway, I think I’m going to have an early dinner, ‘cos I’m hungry…

  • Fuck me gently with a chainsaw…

And other such phrases popped into my head as I realised how clever they’ve been at UWE.

Photocopying, as we’re all aware, is pretty cheap these days, except at UWE where photocopying still costs 5p per sheet. Which is, as I’ve whinged before, more than I paid at Birmingham 5 years ago, more than my local news agent (2p a sheet) and indeed more than is reasonable.

So, I took out a tenner, more than I have really to spare at the moment, and decided that today I would photocopy all the stuff for the EU Packs. These are European Union packs – which cover topics not covered in the ‘taught’ theory or practice – which ‘prove’ that we’re competent to nurse in other countries.

  • Bristol North Baths [not quite abandoned]

Okay, they’re not abandoned, but looking at some of the interior detail you’d be hard pushed to tell. Here’s my photoshoot from Bristol North Baths; alledgedly they’re due to close next month, which will leave me deeply pissed off.

They’re beautiful – and as you can see – they’re pretty much exactly the way they were built. I’ve not included the shots, but it’s still got it’s chimney and boiler rooms from way-back-when. Also, a detail I noticed while swimming is the original ‘Emergency Exit’ painted signs still adorning the walls above the newer cubicles.

  • Stoke Gifford [abandoned]

Stoke gifford being a fairly recently built area there’s not much that’s obviously abandoned; but there is an old ‘aircraft navigation aid’ which I spent a happy 20 minutes pottering around grabbing photos of…

  • Abandoned – Copper Mines at Coniston

So, I said I’d get around to posting these; they’re the SLR shots I took while I was at Coniston Copper Mine.

  • Photography – Rather belated – Lakedistrict Films!

I was going to go into big’ol explanations about these, but I probably won’t now, because I’m very lazy. Any way, here’re some pics from the Lakedistrict. There’s too many for me to put them all up here (that’s a complete lie; I’m again too lazy to put them all up) – but here’s some of my favourites.

    Um.

He’s Guilty as charged, and I get 100 quid compensation. I believe the correct term is ‘Fuck you and the rascist horse you rode in on’.

Hopefully he’s now learned that whatever his personal feelings on the matter, it’s not appropriate to express them out loud.

  • Such a tom-boy

So, I was looking through the photos, and I found something interesting. We’ll come to that in a moment; and I’ll go over in that corner and look all shy and embarressed. But anyway, first up, I though you all might like to see something funny. I was always a something of a tom-boy, probably in reaction to my sister’s highly femme status (although, I look back and am incredibly jealous of [at least one of] her dresses). Anyway, whilst hunting for the one teenage photo of me I actually like (yes, there is one; it just seems to have totally disappeared) I found these two:
