  • Well, this dough is more important…

So I’ve been cold all day. We leave our thermostat at 18°C (~64.5°F) which is apparently ‘adequate’ for an ‘appropriately dressed’ person. However, when we’re actually home, we tend to wind it up to 20°C at some point which is a balmy 68°F, and still feels coolish at times.

Anyhow. It’s been at 18 all day, because I’m here by myself, and it always feels rather extravagant to turn it up higher for just me. Under the wooly blanket seems far cheaper. Sometimes I’ll splash out and light the fire, but not today, because I’ve been studying upstairs. So instead I’ve huddled myself around the hot-not-water-thingie. Had a few cups of tea. And actually, apart from a bit around lunchtime I’ve just been a bit chilly. Copeable with, like.

    However.

I’ve just made some bread dough (for flat-breads).

…which needs to rest in a ‘warm place’ for an hour.

So on the heating goes, because the bread dough rising, now that’s way more important…

ASHEVILLE LESBIAN COUPLE MISSING, BELIEVED TO BE IN DANGER

ASHEVILLE, N.C. – The Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office and the Asheville Police Department are conducting a joint investigation regarding missing persons, Alexandra Brooke King and Tatianna Diz, who were last seen on October 27th leaving Canterbury Place Apartments in between the hours of 9:00 and 10:00 p.m.

The dark blue VW Jetta belonging to Alexandra King was recovered Wednesday morning on Craven Street at the edge of the French Broad River near the New Belgium Brewery site.

The Asheville Police Department confirms they are now investigating the connection between these missing persons and Pierre Lamont Griffin II.

Pierre Lamont Griffin II, 22, was arrested and charged Wednesday after allegedly shooting and killing an Asheville man before taking deputies on a multi-county chase on Tuesday night.

Friends and family of Alexandra King, 22, and Tatianna Diz, 20, say the two were texting with a man named “Pierre” on Tuesday night before they went missing.

King is described as a white female, 5 feet 11 inches and weighs about 120 pounds. She has short brown hair, tattoo of a lightning bolt on her right arm and gauges in her ears.

Diz is a Hispanic female, 5 feet 2 inches. She has brown curly hair on one side of her head with the opposite side shave and dyed blonde.

Anyone with information is urged to contact the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office at 828-250-6670 with any information.

Lol I am old after all :P

It was all about yahoo back in my day

I remember the pain of trying to use dogpile and altavista in library class in middle school to search the internet, and finding nothing, and basically being like “well fuck this, I’m going to go make a geocities website about FFVII”

I remember when Infoseek was my go-to search engine.

    LYCOS. Who remembers Lycos?

Oh wee babies, my first searches were done using gopher…

It’s pretty telling that my parents wouldn’t be called traffickers, and by a lot of people wouldn’t even be called abusive, for locking me into a room with a family member they knew was regularly molesting and raping me.

But a lot of my friends and partners would, for helping me manage finances and look for safe ways to work knowing that I do sex work.

actually adding these two tags on for real bc it’s super important:

#and back then they were just enabling a child rapist#not a damn HOOKER

People have genuinely looked down on me more for being a hooker than my rapist has been looked down on for being a rapist. I have lost more of my family over my job than my cousin- who was taken to court over his sexual abuse (not of me, but of his sister)- did over his actions. He not only still lives with his family, but also still has a strong relationship with them. My sister hasn’t spoken to me in over a year. We live in a society where sex work is more despicable than literal, repeated rape of a fucking three year old.

This post is rebloggable, by the way. This is something that I genuinely want people to be aware of.

  • As long as I’m carping on about gluten

    shadesofmauve:

If you live in the Oly area, have gluten issues, and like delicious Thai food, go to The Thai House in Lacey. The owner and waitstaff are all awesome, and the food is made when it’s ordered, which means she can leave the soy sauce completely out of dishes if people need it!

And on that note, SOY SAUCE:

Look, there’s some utter and complete bullshit ‘fact’ that tamari has no gluten. THAT’S WRONG. WRONG WRONG WRONG. Look at the damn label. Lots of tamari has wheat in it. Blogs and websites and published best-selling cookbooks perpetuate this myth, and you can tell it’s pure bullshit by reading the bottle. Tamari is made with less wheat, which matters exactly zilch to someone with celiac, and sometimes has no wheat. In the US tamari made without wheat is rare and is prominently marked as Gluten Free, right on the label, and also it won’t list wheat as an ingredient really this is very simple.

There is also now a pretty readily available non-tamari gluten-free soy sauce (Kikkoman), made with rice replacing the wheat. That has a different flavor from a gluten-free tamari. If you’ve never experimented with soy sauce, it’s pretty interesting to get a few different types and try ‘em out. I keep Chinese light soy sauce, Chinese dark soy sauce, and Gluten-Free low-sodium tamari as staples in my house.

ETA: Oh also I usually have a bottle of ponzu, which is Japanese citrus flavored soy sauce used for dipping things. You can never have too much soy sauce. :P

  • With each revelation

Each time I hear about the shameful depths corporations will go to assuage their greed for wealth at the expense of the rest of humanity, each time I read about the latest horrific thing done in the name of capitalist success, or ‘for the good of the shareholders’… each time, I think that perhaps that’s the lowest depth that people will plumb, that maybe we’ll learn and perhaps people, even revoltingly rich people will show even the most pathetic strand of moral fibre.

    But no.

It turns out that ExxonMobil can exceed even the most duplicitous and deceitful acts of modern times by attempting to condemn all of humanity to an unpleasant, disease filled future, with mass extinctions of vast populations a real possibility thanks to their behaviour.

    So fuck them.

Really, Fuck them and their shareholders, and the climate scientists who worked there who failed to alert the rest of the world to the fact that Exxon Fucking Mobil knew about climate change in 1978 and instead of acting to try and stem the damage we were inflicting on the world, instead opted to fund groups to deliberately muddy the waters, deceive the public, and prevent meaningful action that might have saved lives.

    Really, fuck them all.

I know it won’t, but I hope to hell their company disintegrates and their company is driven into the ground.

Their management are evil, and their culture corrupting on the rest of humanity.

Do you ever start bullshitting a paper, and then look over it halfway through and think, ’…Wait a minute, I could be onto something here.’

this is the definition of college.

Literally I was writing a paper on Asian salt water crocodiles, like a simple about them paper for a college class, and I started noticing some inconsistencies in the scientific papers I was sourcing and I accidentally discovered that the crocodile has been misdiagnosed as least concerned on the endangered species list when they should be classified as endangered and now my professor is having me write a formal report to the international Red List to have them reclassified and all I wanted to do was write this paper on an animal I thought was cool and now I’m considered an expert on this species…

This may be the best college story I’ve ever read.

Today I shut my cat in the fridge.

Okay, so here’s the deal.  Tali loves the fridge.  I don’t know why, but every single time we open it, she bolts for it and jumps in.  She crawls into the back of the fridge and nestles int the smallest little corner she can.  Now naturally, my biggest fear has been that I’ll close the fridge without knowing she’s in there.  And of course, today I went to go grab my Brita filter to pour myself some water.  I wasn’t really watching the fridge, and I just opened and closed it really quickly to put the Brita back while I was looking somewhere else.  And then I looked around and realized that Tali had been in the kitchen, and now she was nowhere in sight.  So immediately, I throw open the fridge door, and there is is, hanging out in the back, content as can be.

    image

Fridge cat just got weirder.  Today Tali got into the bathroom while I was showering, which of course made me a little nervous.  I didn’t want her to freak out and hurt herself or go on a scratching spree.  But evidently she loves water, so she jumped in and just splashed around for a while and got back out.  But then she kept whining to get back in, so my boyfriend put a cooler down so she could get in and out with ease, which she took great advantage of.  She’s soaking wet now, and very content.

I told Tali she was famous.  She and her stuffed husky celebrated.

This is the kind of content I joined for
