CAPTAIN JOHNSON NOW IN CHARGE OF FERGUSON SITUATION

“I’m going to march with you. There won’t be a police line.”

    more info

    from NBC News;

Missouri Gov. Jay Nixon on Thursday ordered the state Highway Patrol to take over security in Ferguson, the St. Louis suburb roiled by four nights of unrest over the police killing of an unarmed black teenager.

    Here’s another article: http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/capt-ron-johnson-marches-protesters-ferguson-article-1.1904210

(If you don’t see the NBC one immediately, scroll — other things are popping up over it).

Can we as a society please push for legislation to require all police officers to wear a camera on their uniform 100% of the time while they’re on duty, and add a clause stating that any officer accused of police brutality while not wearing their camera will be subject to immediate termination with no option to work in law enforcement at any capacity ever again? Can we please do that? Please?

…I’m sure I’ll regret this in the morning.

(For those unaware, the tune is the traditional Irish & English song ‘the Black Velvet Band’, about being framed for pick pocketing and transported to Tasmania).

Why on earth would you regret that, it’s fantastic!

Why? “Ongoing Adventures in Vocal Self-Doubt: The Continuing Saga.”

Current Chapter: “Wow, this is an amazing combination of ‘I could have done this better’ and ‘I will never sound better than this crap why do I try?’ I have going on here.”

Add in one dash of wry “Now the internet won’t imagine me as a heartthrob with a sultry voice” which, to be fair, probably wasn’t an issue anyway. :P

Clearly your brain and my brain have similar handy techniques for building self confidence. This is why it’s vitally important to ignore your brain and go with ‘I am fucking awesome, and screw anyone, including myself, who says otherwise’.

    That’s my advice.

Michael Brown was an 18 year old that was killed by a Ferguson Police Officer on Saturday, August 9th.  His family is now seeking justice for Michael’s death.  Their pursuit for justice will be lengthy and hard but with the support of the community they will get justice.  If you are willing to support Michael’s family please donate to Michael Brown’s Memorial Fund.  These funds will assist his family with costs that they will acquire as they seek justice on Michael’s behalf.  All funds will be given to the Michael Brown family.  We appreciate your support.

Alderman Arrested, On 24-Hour Jail Hold In Ferguson

Alderman Antonio French has been an amazing source of real-time updates on what is actually happening in Ferguson. His raw, in-the-moment pictures, vines and tweets are testimony to the abuse of angry residents at the hands of their own police department.

Now he has been arrested, silenced, and will be in jail for at least 24 hours.

This tweet from his wife gives a sense of the arrogance ablaze from these militant cops.

Who will yank these cops back from the precipice?

Arresting elected officials as well as media and citizenry.

BTW, article above was updated to say French was released this morning. So… looks like he was held without charges.

Also, the article refers to the ‘officer-involved killing of Michael Brown’, which is a fine bit of weasel language. The officer killed Michael Brown. Even the officer doesn’t contest that, but the news outlet is making it vaguer via it’s reporting.

    – I am becoming an occasional staff writer for Transport Evolved. Don’t think I don’t see the irony in that, I own a bike from the 1930s (pushbike), a 60’s car, a 70’s car and a pre-production EV. That said, I’m the head of The Electric Minor Project, so that probably has more to do with it! You can see my Staff Car Report up there, if you’re so inclined.

    – I keep getting lost down the rabbit hole with respect to our media server. It’s reached the end of hardware support for my chosen OS and I keep thinking, well, should I actually replace it. It still works… Anyhow I’ve been dinking and still go no answer, but am pleased to find I’m just as geeky as I always have been and am quite happy to spend an inordinately long time trying to work out what the cost/benefit ratio is of getting each processor. And how far back in history I have to go to get a decent one. And whether I’m better off getting an older-faster or a newer-architecture-slower one.

    – Our dishwasher’s died and it turns out I still dislike doing the washing up. I’m not sure how long my streak of ‘I will wash up every day’ will survive. Part of me thinks I should look at the dishwasher and see if I can fix it, but frankly, it’s 15 years old – at least – and is shorting to earth, only intermittently at the end of its cycle. Spares for it are, broadly speaking, unavailable. Leading me to conclude that I probably can’t be arsed to fix it. Which is terrible. And I am a terrible, weak person, but buying a replacement second hand one just seems much, much easier. Never mind.

  • Lady on the bus next to me: Tell me again- what are you not going to do in daycare today?
Little boy: I will not hit the teacher with a light saber.
Lady: And why are you not going to hit her with a light saber?
Boy: It is my toy, and my choice, but if I hit her with the light saber, I’m acting like a Sith.
Lady: Do you want to be a Sith?
    Boy: No! I am Obi-Wan!
