  • Help (me find a doctor in the US)

So, in about 6 weeks, assuming I get a visa on Tuesday, we’re moving to the USA… Washington State, semi-specifically. Which is big and scary all by itself, then there’s the whole ‘needing a doctor’ thing.

We’ve looked for GLBTQ friendly doctors (most importantly for me, the T bit of that) , and there are some in Seattle, and some in Olympia, but we’re looking at Port Townsend, and both of those are a bit inconvenient. They’re not totally un-do-able… My general health at the moment is good enough that I’m not deeply angsty about the doctor being a trip away, but if anyone knows of any good T-friendly docs in the Olympic Peninsula region, it’d be really handy.

Essentially, I need someone to give me HRT, and keep a loose eye on my liver function (been fine for a few years now :) ).

Help me tumblr, you’re my only hope :)

augh argh argh I have that thing where there’s nothing I’m seriously supposed to be doing and I’m not sure how to properly enjoy the moment. Do I gaem videoly? With stories or with very small pixel blocks? What about watching the moving entertainment on the not-a-teevees? Or perhaps nourishment? I have forgotten how these things work.

    You and me both…

YOUNG UNARMED BLACK MAN SHOT AND PARALYZED IN HIS NEIGHBORHOOD BY FAKE COP FOR TALKING TO WHITE GIRL IN HIS CAR

On February 4, sitting in his own car in his own neighborhood, talking to a female passenger, Monroe Bird was shot in the neck by a security guard, Ricky Stone, a 52-year-old white man. The bullet pierced the C3 vertebrae in his neck. Standing 6 feet, 8 inches, Bird, a gifted athlete, is now unable to move his arms or legs and relies on a ventilator to breathe.

Heres what you need to know:

    1. The security guard who shot Bird possessed marijuana at the time of the shooting. He told the Tulsa police that he hadn’t smoked it in a few weeks, and they didn’t even give him a citation. This is the definition of white privilege. Mind you, Tulsa was quick to test Eric Harris for drugs after they killed him and then released the results widely—even though he never acted violently toward officers.
    2. The security guard went to the tired, age-old excuse and claimed that he saw Bird reach into his glove compartment. According to the police report, no weapons were found in or near the car, and no items that even seemed to belong in the glove compartment were found out or about in the car.
    3. The security guard claimed he thought Monroe and his female passenger were having sex in the car and that he only approached them because of this. She’s white. Bird is black. Both denied doing anything of the sort.
    4. The security guard has claimed that Bird, who has no criminal record, attempted to run him over and basically kill him there on the spot.

Both the female passenger and Bird denied the guard’s account and stated that they were driving away when Stone began recklessly firing his gun into the car.

    5. The security guard who shot Bird worked for Benjy D. Smith, who owns Smith & Son Security Company. This important to know because Smith is a reserve deputy for the same Tulsa Sheriff’s Office that is currently under national scrutiny for its unethical practices with Reserve Deputy Bob Bates, who shot and killed Eric Harris earlier this year.

    6. The insurance company is denying him coverage because they claim “it was his own fault that he got shot.”

    PLEASE HELP HIM!!

you can either Donate (doesnt have to be alot it can be as small as $5) or Call the healthcare group and demand they give coverage with the number listed above.

    This really hurt my heart.

I just cannot with the world anymore. I avoid the news sometimes cause it is so hurtful. But I also need to be woke.

Monroe Bird passed away June 30th, 2015. His family had raised more than $35,000 and was able to buy equipment so that he could be kept alive at home. He eventually formed a blood clot in his leg and he died soon after.
    May he Rest In Peace

Catholic school won’t let student bring a same-sex date to homecoming

    solarbird:

    gaywrites:

At a Catholic high school in Memphis, Tennessee, an 18-year-old has been told he can’t bring a same-sex date to homecoming – and the school has basically created a new policy to stop him.

Lance Sanderson is a well-known student at Christian Brothers High School, both for being the school’s unofficial sports photographer and for being openly gay (and frequently targeted because of it). Last year, he spoke to an administrator about bringing a same-sex date to homecoming, and the administrator was on board.

But that person no longer works at the school, and when Sanderson brought it up to someone else this year, he was shut down.

Sanderson said when he pushed the issue, school officials told him he could no longer photograph sporting events. The school “wanted me to tell people I had to take a break for a while for personal reasons,” he told Mic. In the meantime, the school put together a committee to look into the matter and come up with something akin to an official policy that would resolve the issue. That new policy was released this week in a bulletin and specified girls from other schools could attend homecoming, but “boys from other schools may not attend.“

The bulletin, Sanderson said, is read each morning on the school’s public address system.

How’s that for deliberately singling out a gay student with your virulent homophobia and repeating it publicly every single day? Ugh.

    always finding new ways.

    “a more regular life”

    “regular”

    did that just happen

did he basically just say that he thinks a straight acting cis man can teach qpoc, trans woc and trans people in general that they can be… normal?

There we go! Dandelion fritter recipe is in this book: The Front Yard Forager

Ooh, cool! I’m totally going to have to try those next year. I have a mental association of dandelions and extreme bitterness, which I think was more about the white sap, and probably comes from when I was a kid, ‘cause I certainly don’t remember ever sticking a dandelion stem in my mouth. :P

And the first amazon review for this is great:

“Chapter Six is a guide to poisonous plants commonly found in urban areas, so you know what to avoid. So you don’t, y’know, make a big batch of Deadly Nightshade cookies for the Band Camp bake sale and cause half the town to go into convulsions and poop themselves to death. Unless of course that’s your goal, in which case, it’s still a very useful chapter.”

Wow, that amazon review is a treasure. <3

shadesofmauve, dandelions can most certainly be bitter! Cooking got the bitterness out of the flowers. Younger leaves of the plant tend to be peppery and older leaves tend to be bitter. You can blanch older leaves to get rid of some of the bitterness.

You can make jam, wine, a coffee substitute, and dye from the Dandelion Plant. The only caution I have read is it’s suggested that folks with gall bladder issues avoid consuming Dandelions.

    Isn’t it?

Thanks for the added info! I think the Dandelion entry in my mental library was last updated around the same time I added “Bifold closet doors are pinchy and evil”, which was only a few years after “STOVE HOT DON’T TOUCH”, so it does need some updating. :P

Oooh, ooh, I may have to get that (if)when we get to the states. Of course, the other thing to do with Dandelion is make Dandelion and Burdock Beer:

    solarbird:

Seriously, it is even worse than originally feared, rewriting history carte blanche to eliminate and/or outright mock the actual people of the Stonewall riots, replacing it with a straight-looking white-guy butch hero narrative, filled with caricatures of pathetic too-femmy-to-ever-find-love gays and comic-relief trans and gender-variant people of colour.
