Very exciting!????????????
I misread this at first and thought they were using Kansas as an example of an area extremely inhospitable to life

I said, ‘the tarantula migration is in my front yard, and they’re endangered, so I have to wait for them to leave, I can’t go out to the bus.’
My boss says, ‘if you’re going to lie, at least lie realistically.’
So I said, ’*takes out phone* Click. Send.’
And that’s how I found out that boss was arachnophobic. And they never asked me for proof of anything again.Seanan McGuire (via andwereallwevegot)

I think we really need to reaffirm now that no amount of homophobia can be acceptable in our culture. There is no such this as harmless or victimless homophobia. All homophobia contributes to violence against us. You can not “disagree” with lgbt people’s “lifestyles” without supporting the rhetoric and legislation that puts us in very real danger.
Disagreement is not violence…
“Disagreeing” with LGBT+ people’s right to exist, right to live safely, right to full protections under the law, and right to equal treatment within society IS a violence.
You can disagree with a lifestyle without wishing that person harm. You can disagree with a lifestyle and respect the person. You can disagree with a lifestyle and love the person. There should never be hate but everyone doesn’t have to agree with everyone’s lifestyle.
See, and here’s the thing: it’s not a “lifestyle.” It’s not like all LGBT+ people are vegan hippies who moved to a commune. This isn’t a choice we’ve made for how we are going to live.
It’s who we are. It’s an integral part of our identity.
I can not be sub-divided into some “straight version” of myself PLUS an added layer of queerness that you can separate me like a stubborn LEGO to justify your bigotry.
If you disagree with me BEING bisexual, then you disagree with me EXISTING. You disagree with me being alive. And that IS a form of harm. No respect, no love can be built on a situation where you “disagree” with my right to be alive.
There’s also some stuff going on that’s similar to some of the rape joke issues. When you’re willing to talk publicly about disapproving of LGBT+ people, the kinds of folks who are potentially getting violent will hear that as you supporting them. When you say you disapprove of us, there are people out there who hear you saying that they should kill us. Do you really want to be sending that message?

#ImWithHer because she’ll nominate judges who will strike down hateful legislation like HB2. #ImWithHer because she will maintain the executive orders issued by President Obama that expanded the rights of #transgender people like me. To be apathetic or petulantly sit this one out is to tacitly support the oppression of trans people.

OK, so here is how to get individual girl hair for your LEGOs.
On lego.com, at the bottom of the page, under “customer service” go to “Replacement Parts”. Then you can pick “Buy bricks”. That gives you the screen above.
In “design element number” put a part number of a girl hairdo. Tahdah! Finding the part numbers was really a slog, so I’m sharing them for anyone else who’s kid is using the two girl hairs she has on every single minifig. (Also each hair piece is less than $1US. Much cheaper than Amazon.)
If you have any additional girl hair part numbers, feel free to add them on.

US Navy: Please Appeal Your DADT Discharge – Joe.My.God.
US Navy: Please Appeal Your DADT Discharge – Joe.My.God.
From the Navy Times:
Navy Department officials are urging the thousands of sailors and Marines forced out of the military because of their sexuality in previous decades to come forward and appeal their discharge — in a step to restore benefits and right a historical wrong.
The Board for Correction of Naval Records can overturn a wide range of records, from counseling letters to detachments for cause, but recently they have been putting the word out to veterans who were separated because of the military’s “Don’t ask, don’t tell” policy — and its previous across-the-board ban — that they can have their discharges upgraded and their reenlistment codes or reason codes changed to reflect a post-DADT world.
In general, BCNR can consider requests to upgrade discharges all the way down to dishonorable, but Thompson said most sexuality-related discharges were honorable or general under honorable conditions, which entitle veterans to all or most benefits.
The easiest cases to overturn are those where a veteran was discharged simply for being gay. If misconduct also came into play, it would be more complicated, but still worth pursuing.
I’m screaming
They booted too many sailors and marines and military enlistment is still low, so they’re begging queer dischargees to swallow their pride and return.Nice
????????????Actually they aren’t asking them to reenlist (unless they want to) since most people with a DADT discharge probably aren’t eligible age wise to reenlist even with a discharge upgrade. The purpose of this is to get them eligible for VA benefits ranging from health care to education to cash. And to make them employable if their command gave them a DADT under other than honorable conditions. This started while I was still working at VA, because hundreds of thousands of vets deserve benefits they can’t get without a general or honorable discharge.

To be honest, as an American, I don’t completely grasp all the complexities or to what extent the consequences could be for the UK, as I only have a very basic understanding of the EU’s purposes, but the Leave sounds like horseshit to me
thing is, the referendum was largely decided on whether or not people believed the lies about immigration and refugees and it turns out, yes, the majority of english people are in fact racist fuckbuckets who’ll believe anything you tell them as long as it scapegoats foreign people
so like, people who voted to remain are a) aghast at the sheer amount of work that’s going to be required to extricate our legal and financial systems from the EU, b) probably also having a lot of other feelings but primarily c) distressed, depressed, and angry at the violent racism our country just endorsed
we’ve already seen a huge upswing in racist and xenophobic attacks
no justification for Leave, not that one particularly exists, is enough for what the whole process is going to do to people of colour in this country, polish people, and anyone who looks enough like them to a violent racist
even if we somehow manage to reverse the exit course and stay in the eu, the far right has been massively emboldened. we’ve only seen the start of the violence to come.
and all this is happening because the prime minister – who just resigned, btw – was worried about not getting in at the last election and promised this referendum so that racists would vote for his party
I am so deeply ashamed of England at the moment.
It’s so fucking awful I can’t even.

Confronting Street Racism: Know the Law.

After Brexit, fears of a sharp spike in racism and
xenophobia are sadly being confirmed. Dont just share this online, discuss it with
your mates IRL. We can’t beat the far right through ‘likes’. Lets build actual solidarity against racism. Here’s some tips for the road:NOTE: Law of ENGLAND & WALES only.

The Police are institutionally racist. Don’t rely
on them to back you up. -
Before taking action, try and have a quick glance at escape routes and CCTV
cameras. If you have to escape, try switching some items of clothing around. -
As a minimum, offer to walk someone to a place of safety if they’re the victim of abuse. Be mindful of people approaching from behind. Use
light, shadow and reflections to your advantage. If you need to wait, do it
with your back to a wall for 180° vision. -
If someone makes a verbal or physical threat of racist violence,
balance that with steps to defend yourself/another against them. Legally, this is to prevent hate crime through “necessary
and reasonable” action. -
This means more force might be justified against someone ‘bigger and uglier’ than yourself/another. Less force might be called for
where the assailant could be seen as physically vulnerable. This means snap-judgements
have to be made on age, for instance: the difference between a block and a strike. Intoxication either
side can also affect the verdict. Remember you will be judged by the values of
a racist justice system, not your mates. -
These ideas might be applicable to countering
racist graffiti too.
eg – if you regularly carry stationary with you, you might want to use a marker
pen to cross out that swastika that’s been bothering you. Using keys to deface
fascist stickers is definitely fair game. -
If an intruder in your home/caravan/houseboat
threatens attack, you have greater freedom to defend yourself as long as it isn’t
“grossly disproportionate”. -
If you are arrested, SAY NO COMMENT to all questions except
your name and an address. If you have injuries or medical needs tell the
station doctor in as few words as possible: they work for the cops. CALL A
TRUSTED LAWYER for free rather than taking a duty solicitor. When you get out, contact GBC or LDMG for free additional specialist
legal support ASAP.
