Remember our history. Our discourse cannot be sound without it. This is our legacy.

i’m pretty sure i’ve reblogged this before, but i’m gonna go ahead and do it again because the late ‘80s / early ‘90s were fucking terrifying. queer rights was literally a life and death struggle.

No-one can say who would win in a fight between a Star Trek ship and a Star Wars ship because Star Wars has technology that is basically magic and does whatever the plot demands, while Star Trek, the more scientifically rigorous of the two, has technology that is basically magic and does whatever the plot demands.

Really, it’s going to come down to who figures out that they need to reverse the polarity on something first

Cop Terrorizes Child on School Bus for Not Worshipping Him

An unidentified cop was caught on video angrily shouting at the student
     for SMILING AT HIM.
There is no information why this situation even occurred, but we see the result, where cop behaves outrageously with a little kid, who was smiling at him. The student is not seen on the video, but we can hear him responding to cop with fear “Alright

    , alright”.

To tolerate this kind of behavior of the cops means to accept what they offer to us- brutality, violence and injustice.

Britain is not open about the stuff we’ve done at all.

Slavery is taught but that’s about it. And even then the focus is on “We stopped it”, often leaving out the part about profiting from it for 200 years.

The crimes in Ireland are only taught at A Level history, meaning that most of the public is truly ignorant of British colonialism in Ireland. A huge portion of the English public voted Cromwell to be one of the greatest Britons ever, and he committed horrific acts against Ireland and Scotland.

There’s little mention of any imperialism in Africa. When it was revealed the Mau Mau’s would be getting a memorial statue funded by the UK, people were outraged and basically denied that we ever did anything wrong. The Boer and Zulu wars are forgotten, especially the bit about the concentration camps.

There’s absolutely 0 public discussion regarding British imperialism in India. People’s knowledge seems to go as far as “We gave them trains so they should be grateful”. The British tied mutineers to cannons and blew them up. The Indian economy shrank under British rule more than any other nation in the modern era. From about 20% of global GDP (Similar to China and Europe) at the start, to about 1% at independence.

And that’s not even mentioning the Native Americans. Long before someone ever dreamt up the idea of  United States, the European colonists were quite happy killing, abusing, and conning the natives.

There’s a reason another phrase for the Union Jack is “The Butcher’s Apron”. You don’t get to be the world’s first hyperpower without slaughtering a lot of people.

People really are awfully naive if they think the whitewashing of history happens only in one country.

Prime example of the British mentality is this: “we made their countries better”.

My dad has actually said that. Mention the war crimes, genocide, ethnic cleansing, and general horrific stuff and he gets genuinely angry with you. I’m sorry, but history is not there to be swept under a rug. If you want to celebrate how successful we were, remember who we were standing on to get there.

Watch: This mockumentary imagines a world without men — and some real mean are reacting exactly how you’d expect.

I’m guessing they meant “real men” not “real mean,” but it works either way, I suppose.

once every few months, my “drug users should get food stamps too” post makes its rounds and I get a lot of messages that remind me just how much y’all hate addicts.

like I want you to think about how fucked up capitalism has got you when I’m like “everyone should get food” and you’re like “hey now…… that’s taking things a little far…..”

and I really hope you don’t pull from this that I’m mild mannered about it because tbh, if you think this way, I fucking hate you. I’ve been an addict most my damn life and I deserve food! surprise! think about how messed up it is that your fucked up ass seriously believes that if people don’t live up to your standards, they deserve to die of starvation. seriously consider why you think drug usage relieves you of the right to eat.

I’m serious. why? you don’t like drugs? cool, don’t do em. that’s not your choice to make for others and you really, really have your head up your ass if the process of recovering from addiction in your mind is “stop drugs; the end” and I can’t help you out that ignorance but you can try some googling for once in your damn life and then shut the fuck up
