Lousy

I feel lousy.

Not, I’ll grant, anywhere near as bad as I did the last 3 days. But I still feel sicky (probably from the huge amounts of gunk my sinuses have produced and I’ve swallowed over the last couple of days – although you probably didn’t want to know that).

I have in fact, felt like crap, for the last 3 days. Unfortunately, we’ve conducted our house move with me feeling like crap. We’ve still got a bunch of stuff over in the other house; all my tools, for example. My printer. Lots and lots of stuff.

One set of draws…

The new house is very lovely, unfortunately it smells almost permanently of paint; so I’ve got to keep the window to my bedroom open, and the one in the office. Unfortunately, also, it appears this house has thinner walls than the last one, so my PC is not only preventing my housemate from sleeping, but also from getting back to sleep if I switch it on in the morning.

This is obviously ‘a bad thing’. But I’m really unsure as to how to tackle the problem; I’ve taken out the dodgy hard disk (a 40Gb Maxtor :( ), I can’t afford to replace the 3 storage disks with one big one (I’d *like* to, but 60-80 quid, for enough storage to make it worthwhile (I don’t want to replace the 3 disks I’ve got with any less (since they’re all moderately full); or indeed with an equal amount of space (because that’s fairly pointless. I need *more* space)) is beyond the realms of realism at this point).

I don’t *think* it’s the disks anyway. Hang on *dives under the desk*

I can’t decide if it’s the 21dB ‘quiet’ processor fan, or the shite maplin motherboard fan (of which there was no choice about which fan to get). Mind you, according to my machine my disks are running at 53 and 48 deg C, which is ‘a bit hot’ really. So, my choice in the matter of my disks may be taken out of my hands by this.

I really don’t know what to do though. I’ve looked at the quiet PC stuff, and it’s all fairly extreme. My friends suggested eggboxes and resting the thing on foam. I’m thinking though, it’s the fan noise that’s the bugger, and really anything I do to alter that is going to alter the cooling potential of the casefans. Disturbingly, something, somewhere in my case is registering 63 deg C. Oh dear.

My machines have always run hot; a side effect of me never being able to afford new components, and using everyone elses cast offs. I paid for one disk in this PC; the rest are disks which belonged to friends, got given to me when they were dead and got RMA’d. That’s why I’ve got the storage capacity I’ve got.

Bah.

I’m going round in circles, can you tell I’m stressed?

My computer’s one of the ways I destress. Fiddling with the car and bike too, but since I need them both for work I don’t feel like fiddling with them, iykwim. It’s too much like trying to keep my life together.

I keep thinking, it’s another year and a half, after that my finances will improve (assuming I qualify :-/ ), and I’ll be in much less dire financial straits. But it’s all a bit much at the moment. I’ve just realised, there’s no bloody window above this door. That’s not going to help with noise levels.

Nyargh. STRESS.

I should cook some dinner.

My dad’s back in hospital. Septicima. Not good. Very bad. Space. I need some time and space, and at the moment I don’t have it. I want to talk to Trey, I miss her, and I just need something good in my life at the moment. And… I can’t. And I’ve got a cough which keeps removing the back of my throat quite effectively. Sore it is. Tired. Sore. Fed up. Lonely.

I watched ‘The Terminal’ today. Fantastic film. Recommend you all see it. Really, really good. And yeah, to Nikki, I’d say you were right.

Kate's a human mostly built out of spite and overcoming transphobia-racism-and-other-bullshit. Although increasingly right-wing bigots would say otherwise. So she's either a human or a lizard in disguise sent to destroy all of humanity. Either way, it's all good.
