    I broke my favorite shovel.

It was my great grandmother’s shovel.

Only the fact that dad assures me we can replace the handle keeps me from sitting in the dirt with the two halves wailing “YOU BROKE MY GRANDMOTHER’S SPEAR” at the offending root, a la Grim Eyes.

(That, and that my great grandmother was a truly wonderful woman who does not deserve to be associated with Grim Eyes’ mother).

This may be too late, but depending on how it broke you may not have to even replace the handle. Sadly I don’t have a photo of my mum’s repaired-by-my-dad-who’s-been-dead-10-years spade’s handle but if it’s not a straightish break they can be very successfully repaired (being in healthcare, I want to say the break on that handle was somewhat like a spiral fracture (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spiral_fracture)).

I think the trick was really good quality impact adhesive on the splintered sections – pop it back together and then immediately wrap twine around it phenomenally tightly over a good distance more than the section of the break. Then bond that in position at each end.

Anyhow, I hope you can save it…

There’s so much pain in this photo.
Poc in solitary marching for eachother

this picture deserves more context than it’s been getting. on the far left is linda sarsour. she is a palestinian-american racial justice and civil rights activist and media commentator. in the middle is carmen perez, co-founder of Justice League NYC and criminal justice reform activist. on the far right is tamika mallory, a civil and human rights activist and freedom fighter.

this is the march2justice. it was a 250 mile-long walk from staten island to washington, dc. they were delivering what they call the justice package, a list of proposals for congress that would seek to end racial profiling, the militarization of police, and to support programs to prevent the incarceration of young people. about 100 people marched with them. i got to listen to linda sarsour speak very briefly at an Islamic Relief fundraiser while this was going on. these women are astonishing.

when they reached baltimore, they decided to put the march on hold. all three of them are now there, marching and reporting. the march2justice explicitly states its support of all black people, cis and trans, incarcerated and not. more information on the march2justice can be found here.

Australian TV host congratulates a biracial girl for inheriting white skin vs. brown skin.

That’s messed up. And imagine people asking them questions their whole lives even though they’re 100% sisters. On a brighter note, though… they’re both gorgeous! I’d like to see the whole video. I hope the sister she complimented goes off and defends her sister.
