won’t somebody please think of the cismen?! mark ruffalo: cancelled

When at least one trans woman auditioned AND tried to explain why they shouldn’t consider cis men for the part. Where was the compassion for her?

depicting trans womanhood isnt a fucking catalyst for your personal growth as cis men jesus christ. try learning BEFORE you do something seriously impactful

So, no compassion for the trans women who are murdered by the dozens and can’t find work or housing and are still misgendered in life and death because of depictions of them as nothing more than “men in dresses” but yeah, let’s be compassionate for the millionaires who will literally never be affected by it. Fuck @markruffalo

“but we already spent money on our bigotry, you can’t expect us to be out of pocket just to do no further harm”

On 18 August 1955 Pete Seeger testified before the House Un-American Activities Committee (HUAC).

Seeger refused to take the Fifth Amendment, but also refused to acknowledge the right of the Committee to ask him questions about his political affiliations, or the names of other people.

“I am not going to answer any questions as to my association, my
philosophical or religious beliefs or my political beliefs, or how I
voted in any election, or any of these private affairs. I think these
are very improper questions for any American to be asked, especially
under such compulsion as this. I would be very glad to tell you my life
if you want to hear of it,” Seeger said.

“I feel that in my whole life I have never done anything of any
conspiratorial nature and I resent very much and very deeply the
implication of being called before this Committee that in some way
because my opinions may be different from yours, or yours, Mr. Willis [D-LA],
or yours, Mr. Scherer [R-OH], that I am any less of an American than anybody
else. I love my country very deeply, sir.

CHAIRMAN FRANCIS E. WALTER [D-PA]: Why don’t you make a little contribution toward preserving its institutions?

MR. SEEGER: I feel that my whole life is a contribution. That is why I would like to tell you about it.

CHAIRMAN WALTER: I don’t want to hear about it.

The committee then tried to question Seeger about where he performed, and if he ever performed, citing Elia Kazan’s testimony regarding the Communist Party’s wish to have American entertainers perform for them. Seeger replied, “I feel these questions are improper, sir, and I feel they are immoral to ask any American this kind of question… .  I have sung for Americans of every political persuasion, and I am proud
that I never refuse to sing to an audience, no matter what religion or
color of their skin, or situation in life. I have sung in hobo jungles,
and I have sung for the Rockefellers, and I am proud that I have never
refused to sing for anybody. That is the only answer I can give along
    that line.

Pete Seeger found guilty of contempt of Congress (and faced 10 years in prison) but
successfully appealed his case, which was overturned in 1962. Seeger was also blacklisted – his songs not played on the radio and he could not appear on TV – for 17 years.

If you read the whole transcript, he also offered several times to sing for them, saying they could then judge for themselves whether his songs were political. They refused, which was probably sensible of them, because I will bet my car that he was trying to get them to join in a sing-along about peace and love. In the universe where that happened, I’m convinced it went absolutely viral and changed the course of Cold War history.

…god, I love this man. ^_^ I named myself after him, you know.

Who told you that?  No one told you that!  That isn’t true at all!  Ha ha!  Ha ha!  How funny!  Would you like a treat to reward you for being funny?  Ha ha!  Come into this corn maze!  I will show you a funny thing!  Yes.  So funny.  So good.

    Come.  Into the corn.

    It’s…very subtle…but I think this might be a trap.

  • Black father was shot dead for not holding the door open for a woman at a McDonald’s.

31-year-old Mohammad Robinson died in Las Vegas Saturday night. All witnesses said that the Black man didn’t hear the woman asking to hold the door for her while entering McDonald’s. She got upset and told

    her male companion

about the incident. The man waited for Robinson outside the restaurant and shot him down like a dog. His killer remains at large, but police say the shooting was caught on surveillance cameras which they will try to use to identify him.

“It’s horrible. I want my dad back and you took him away from me!” said the murder victim’s daughter, Miniya Sampson.

Robinson is survived by his mother, a girlfriend, four children, and two step-children. His youngest daughter is just three months old and is suffering from a blood sepsis infection.

This murder only highlights the situation in America –

black lives clearly don’t matter very much to their fellow citizens.

The family started a GoFund me page to cover funeral costs:

    R .I.P Mohammad.

    And nobody gives a sh*t

i only heard about this 2 months ago. its been 3 years????

Remember this started because Snyder switched Flint from a freshwater mountain lake to the polluted Flint River simply to allow his wife’s company to use the lake for bottling instead.
This is a manufactured crisis of corruption and capitalism.

Also remember that the pipes corroded because they refused to pay for the chemical used to make the water less acidic.

Remember that when the first E. coli outbreak from the water popped up, the city hall was given water coolers by the state, free of charge, all while denying that the water could be unsafe to drink.

Remember that, despite having a huge budget surplus and a “rainy day fund,” set aside that could easily cover the cost of relocating the residents by buying their houses/paying their debt, or could cover a large chunk of the cost of replacing the pipes, the state has decided to continue to only put in the minimal amount of effort.

Remember that flint is majority POC, majority impoverished, and is still being faced with crippling water bills from the Detroit water supply company, where they are often charged $50 a month just to use the service, on top of the cost of their water bill.

Remember that there will now be an entire generation of children who will now be damaged by lead poisoning and damage from the multitude of neurotoxins.

Remember that this is what privatized natural resources looks like. Remember that these people are being punished for having the audacity to dare to be poor in an economy that won’t let them be anything but.

At every level, this has not been a mistake.

The State and City are most upset that people know its happening and are resisting nation-wide.

But if we lose focus they lose even the small amount of aid they’ve managed to get.

This is how they do it. It’s a siege on the public empathy. Eventually we become numb to the problem and despair. Or something bigger happens.

Then its business as usual again.
