Who’s been paying people to compliment me? Come on? Tell me…

    No, seriously…

It’s bizarre, I’ve just had this big bundle of compliments – from people who, well, they’re all independent. They’re not people I know, and I don’t think they’ve been influenced by people I know….One of them even has me on his “like to see naked” list, which is frankly astounding.

But the funny thing is it’s done wonders for my confidence.

It’s hard to believe what people I *know* say, particularly people I know who know I’m TS. Or who know how neurotic and nervous about myself I am….

Anyway, following that I had an e-mail conversation with someone I met – who shall remain nameless, who gave me what I guess is a big compliment – but kind of freaked me out – because I kind of forget that I’m TS. Or at least it doesn’t really impact on 90% of my life, and so…well, you know. When you get a specific TS-compliment, well, it’s weird.

    Anyway that’s about it.

For whatever reason (probably lack of sleep) I feel like absolute crap this morning. Absolute. Crap. I didn’t get to go jogging – well, okay, I didn’t *go* jogging becuase it’s raining. This sucks, because I am not mad enough to want to go out in the rain but I do *really* want to get fit.

So, anyway, what was I going to ramble about? Any ideas? No?

Nor have I right now, I kinda started with this whole bunch of thoughts but tiredness seems to have taken them away. [more]

    They’re all 16/17ish.

With some help and persistance it was compiled and installed (it really didn’t seem to want to go for a while), and I had a little play with it and the d5d plugin (DVD with menus ‘n’ stuff) – anyway it was close but not quite there with the DVD playback. Hrm. Just watched junkyard wars (i.e. the ‘merkinised version of Scrapyard Wars) – interesting, and to be honest, irritating. Why?

Well, in the semi-final the team that won (pitbulls, iirc) should have been disqualified – or at least lost – because they’re machine just *did not work*. Whereas the other team’s machine did at least do what it was meant to, not well, but it did. How did the ‘pitbulls’ win without their machine working? Brute force. They were building fire-pumps and the pitbulls just threw water at the fire, with a bucket.

Anyway, so they got through that one – although you could tell the presenters didn’t like it.

And *this* time – they cheated, got pissed off when the other team stole back stuff (which is a bit of a pot, kettle, black situation since they stole stuff before). Anyway, they won. Which was irritating. But anyway.

The thing that struck me is that you don’t see that in the UK version. You don’t see another team’s members threatening to attack another team, and you don’t see outright stealing. Yeah, they’ll nab stuff from *outside* the other teams area, but not *inside*. Anyway. It just struck me as really unpleasant.

Argh. No, let me rephrase that – AAAAAARRRRRRRRGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH.

Fucking windows fucking GDI printers. We have one, sadly. A colour Laser. Which wouldn’t be so bad except the drivers for this particular one are *utter* *shit*. It includes a particularly useful piece of software called “Minolta Uninstaller” – which you might think was a tool for uninstalling the minolta printer drivers, but no, it’s actually a tool for breaking your windows install.

Bear in mind that these are specific windows 2000 drivers, running on Windows 2000.

Clicking uninstall leads it to uninstall itself and various bits not belonging to it, thus making it impossible to reinstall the fucking things. Grr.

Well, I’ve had a fairly knackering weekend – been to see Star Wars Episode II – Attack of the poorly written script. Actually, I quite enjoyed it – although I think we were the only people in the cinema who found it incredibly funny. I get the feeling everyone else was attempting to take it seriously.

We also went to see Spiderman (although I’d seen it before) – which still Rocks. Unfortunately I came out of that wanting to be able to shoot webs out of my wrist, which funnily enough I can’t do. Nuts.

But without doubt the best bit of the weekend wasn’t something I did *this* weekend. As I said on the 26th – I wrote to my dad, well, left a letter for my dad trying to explain my experience of depression and just talking to him about his depression – and it seems to have helped.

When he rang he sounded so much happier, and was actually talking about the things he’d done – and spoke about the letter I’d left and how much it helped to know that someone else at least understood the depression. I hope it helps. It seems to have done, and I’m grateful for that.

So I’ll ramble about yesterday until something more interesting pops into my head (I’m in one of those moods where I need to get some thoughts out of my head – so you’re the lucky/unfortunate individuals who get to see them) – yes. So, yesterday I finally actually did some excercise, actually I did a fairly major amount of exercise by my standards….

Got up at 8ish, actually *went* jogging, then walked into Bristol (about 30 mins walk from here), grabbed an application form for a Nursing Assistants role, popped in the film for processing (incidentally, that reminds me what I wanted to ramble about – but now you’ll have to wait). Yes, so, did that, wandered around, decided I want a Nikon Coolpix 775 (it’s so Niiiiice. If I get this job I’m having one. Okay? Good). Almost got a mobile phone (cheap contract, phone on sale), but didn’t due to: knowing I can’t really afford it, not really needing it 99% of the time (if I’m working in a hospital….), and having at least a nanogram of common sense (getting a 12 month contract when you’ve got *no* money coming in – not wise).

Yes, so, went to Starbucks (actually, that reminds me of another thing that happened a while back (am I wandering off on enough tangents today?). When I was in Oxford with Stephanie, James, Peter and Lauren I asked Stephanie if there were any Starbucks in Oxford (‘cos she used to live there, apparently). Anyway, she was under the impression that there weren’t – but as we spent the day in oxford more and more of the appeared – and I say “appeared” because that did seem to be what was happening. You’d walk down a street one way, and then half an hour you’d wander down it again and a Starbucks would have just appeared. It’d look like it’d been there for a while – but you knew it hadn’t….anyway) where I filled in the application form (please give me a job, please, please!). Before trundling back and wandering around forbidden planet (which had lots of stuff I’d quite like – and I feel guilty about not getting from there but I can get it *vastly* cheaper elsewhere) – although we did see one thing….

A Jesus action figure. Seriously! It’s got moveable arms and….wait for it…..rollers underneath so it can “glide”. Scary stuff.

Incidentally on the Coffee theme, what is with this sudden explosion in the number of places doing Coffee? I mean there was a Costa Coffee *in the bank* in Southend. Actually in it. Part of it. Can people not wait until they’ve completed the bank transaction and walked all of maybe 20 feet to any one of the 8,000 *other* coffee shops not actually *in* other shops? Bah!

So, anyway, photos. Yes, photos, mirrors and videos. It’s interesting how people see themselves – I mean, people say I’m okay looking (and some overzealous people claim I’m pretty) – but I simply *cannot* see it in mirrors or photos. I can maybe see that I look okay/sound okay on video (ta Aisling, that’s actually improved my opinion of myself). But other people seem to be different. Some people prefer themselves in photos, or hate themselves in photos and prefer mirrors….

I for one can’t *stand* mirrors, photos….well, I’m not that keen on them, but they don’t really bother me that much (not as much as I make out – I just enjoy the chase ;-)

Of course the sad thing about this is when there’s someone who’s *gorgeous* who just doesn’t see it. At all. And who doesn’t see it in pictures or mirrors, and who you don’t have a video to test that with…..of course, this is why I need Nikon Coolpix 775. Yes. Ah…..

And then to go and see *cough* someone who I think is fantastic looking who just doesn’t believe it…..

Annnyway. And on another topic I finally ordered the Norwegian dictionary from amazon. You wouldn’t *believe* how hard it is to get a norwgian dictionary here. I’ve tried Waterstones in Bristol, Southend and Newbury. I’ve tried WHSmith in Southend and Newbury. I’ve tried a couple of smaller bookshops. Swahili, Swedish, Russian, Welsh, Irish, Spanish, Mexican spanish, Polish….all available. Dutch, not a problem. Italian – easy to obtain. Norwegian? Not a hope….Ahh well, it’ll hopefully be winging it’s way to me soon. Then I’ll be able to read this newspaper. Slowly…… :-)

And don’t forget the competition to win a pebble is still open….

    Not kidding.
    *giggle*
There’s about 15 of them for sale on ebay atm.

Sigmund Freud action figures?! You’re kidding right….. [Please say you’re kidding]

He he… I knew about the Jesus action figures. Ebay is the place to look – more action figures than the mind can comfortably conceive. I’m not sure if I’m more scared by the rolling Jesus or the Sigmund Freud one.

Photos… It’s taken me a while to get used to the idea that I look okay in photos. I think I can guess who you’re talking about, and it’s really sad that they can look into a mirror and not see what I see when I look at them.

So, I’ve been playing with Xine. With some help and persistance it was compiled and installed (it really didn’t seem to want to go for a while), and I had a little play with it and the d5d plugin (DVD with menus ‘n’ stuff) – anyway it was close but not quite there with the DVD playback. Anyway, with the discovery of the NVidia driver option we’ve got to “really f’kin close” to DVD playback while running KDE3! Woo!

[goes off to play some more]

Okay, so I had this interesting question to ask yesterday; in the picture I posted, which people are blokes and which are women? (Interesting to see how different people answer)

    They’re all 16/17ish.

Anyway, so, the first person with all correct answers wins a pebble….

    Go see

07/29/2002 Archived Entry: “Oh, I dunno, make one up.”

I failed to actually get up to go jogging this morning. I’ll have to go this evening. Not breaking that promise to myself to get fit again – I’ve done that enough time. I also promised my mum I’d do some curls, which’ll be, well, hard work.

Anyway, I’ve done, ooh, one of the things I promised myself I’d do today – which is a step up on none…. I thought I’d fill in a bit more of the weekend for people. I spent most, well (basically), all of Saturday sorting out stuff I own, everything….from early to Uni. I’ve managed to throw away probably 80% of the stuff that was kicking around which is good – less space required later. What I also found was….yes….the photo of me, from when I was (about) 16:

For some reason this photo is really important to me. Anyway, don’t laugh too much – it’s here:

So, that’s me in 1996 (ish).

Incidentally that’s Chris (the group leaders) very rusty 2CV (failed it’s next MOT iirc) – and made some very unpleasant noises when we tried to pick it up (yes, pick it up) and move it (the body appeared to be coming away from the floorpan)

Now there’s just one more photo to obtain – unlikely to actually happen – it’s the one taken when I was on a school trip…however, I don’t even know if this photo exists. It was on Ben’s camera – which got smashed (on purpose – didn’t I just have a lovely relationship with other members of my school) – thus preventing the film being developed. However – I’m probably in the background of other peoples photos.

Anyway. So. Unlikely to get that – but anyway.

And today’s competition is to count the Anyway’s (sticks her tongue out at peter).

I’ve forgotten what I was going to say now. Nuts. Incidentally, I didn’t name that photo, Jasmine did. I probably should have renamed it before putting it up, but I didn’t..

Oh, yes, I’ve finally given in and put my “old” name on friends reunited. So we’ll see what happens there – yes. Hrm.

I think that’ll do. Don’t really want to talk about my dad atm.
