Not a 1969 T603-2, which would be ideal.

Bastards.
I can’t believe I’ve just spent over 2 hours trying to get my sodding RISC PC to actually talk to my Linux box. SSH is apparently no longer working, nor will Samba, nor will NFS. In the end I actually resorted to using my webserver as a place to dump a zip file, so I could pull it off on the RISC PC. Why go through all this? Simply because I wanted to post something on drobe about the price ‘slashed’ Iyonix.
And I wanted to check that the most recent versions of my browsers still didn’t really handle, well, the internet, very well. Unfortunately, Netsurf proved to me that I’ve not been keeping my RISC PC up to date. It took a long time before I worked out why it wouldn’t load. WebsterXL is still as feckless as ever, but is faster I must admit.
I’m reminded, using my RISC PC, of both why I love and why I’m so frustrated by RISC OS – and why my RISC PC still sits on my desk. Anyway, having done all of this I went to post my comment…. and…. no login. I can’t seem to get a login for drobe, and I’ve forgotten my old one. *sigh*
I think it might be time for me to stop being a geek, I’m clearly no good at it anymore (oh, shush Emma). And yeah. Bed would be a good idea now.
So, it’s no great secret I’ve never been overly fond of the U.S.A…. Since I dislike disposable consumerism, am a bit of a closet green freak, I’m a lesbian, and really, really hate guns then the U.S.A. is unlikely to top my list of favourite countries; but the place is really beginning to unnerve me.
I always kind of presume that you get this natural swing; you get people going “no, no, no, we’re getting too liberal” and lo, the pendulum swings the other way; until the rebelious nature of some members of the public starts to kick in and voilà , you’re heading back towards the middle. But over in America, land of the free, something really disturbing seems to be happening. Something which is remaining almost unreported by the ‘free’ press in the U.S.A.
The New York Press article is the first hint that something’s amiss (a giant cage. Mmm, sounds nice), and then you read these two webjournals and start to think what the fuck?
The question of how biased the media on the left are being is, of course, something to be very much aware of. Everyone has a story to tell, and a point to make…. But the fact that even mainstream media is forced to accept the existance of arrests of indivduals doing nothing wrong suggests there’s something seriously overzealous in the police tactics.
Lawyers who appeared in the city’s arraignment court said, for example, that on Saturday a building superintendent named Andre Lebbt, 49, was arrested while he was taking out the garbage. They also described arrests of a man walking home from a sushi restaurant, and another man dressed in a business suit going home from work
Taking out the garbage!, let’s just run that past people again. The man was taking the rubbish out and gets arrested?! That’s seriously fucked up. Incidentally, you could also read: MTV’s report or the Christian Science Monitor’s report(!)…
Normally this kind of stuff would, well, not be mentioned in the mainstream media; if they’ve arrested 1,700 protestors then what to 3 or 4 accidental arrests mean? But it seems to fit awfully closely with the comments in the web-journals….
….more and more America seems to be swinging dangerously away from any real form of democracy, I mean we all know that Bush wasn’t elected last time, he just took power and the democratic party were quite happy to let him take it (I mean, what is that about?!). But now the american population seem to be largely acquiescing as Bush turns America into what is, fairly much, a police state; more than that they actually seem to *want* him to have another term in office, to take away even more of their freedoms… Perhaps these protests are the signs of a much, much larger movement to change the direction their country is headed in, but with the current stats at : Bush 50%, Kerry 47% it doesn’t hugely look like it.
This post is thanks to Kittenarmy’s very quick mention in her Livejournal.
So, another day passes and I’m now feeling markedly better. Not entirely better, but better enough that I’ve done some stuff towards my Uni Work. At least, made some progress on that. My head’s still a bit woozy, my stomach’s still a bit iffy, but overall I fell a whole bundle better than I did yesterday. I even got to sleep last night! That was nice.
Yeah, so today I’ve mostly done nothing, although I’ve finished tidying up the site, I think. It’s all setup now, the comments system is moderately sensible, the content is slowly starting to appear – that’s one problem, as a level of distractant having something that I *want* to do is terribly bad. Previously I only had several things I wanted to do instead of work, now I’ve got lots of things…
Still, I’ve not actually done any of them, apart from fiddling with the site. Mostly I’m still not-quite-well enough, iyswim.
Anyway, in other news it appears I won’t be DJing in the near future; it’s not off forever, just off for the time being… To be honest, 3 hours a week was probably rather a lot to give up to DJing, and I should probably be grateful…. Still, would have *liked* to have given it a shot; especially since I moved the PC in here and reorganised the room to take it….
Anyway, I should get back to doing not very much. Incidentally, if anyone’s off to Cardiff MardiGras, I’ll see you there :-)
So, I’ve been fiddling with the site today, as you can probably tell. Those of you who’ve been here before will notice that the diary now actually vaguely fits into the rest of the site, some of it’s a bit messy but overall it’s kinda neater.
The reason for this is that I’ve caught a lousy, miserable, cold. Having been away for the weekend I got back, sat down to do some work and slowly felt increasingly grotty. Having spent most of yesterday in bed I got up today (after virtually no sleep) to find that I really do have a stinker of a cold, intermittently a temperature, and generally crappitude.
I can’t concentrate on anything (which is why this is rather patchy, the whole look of the site) and to give you an idea of how tired I am, I forgot to put the handbrake on when I was in the supermarket (buying soup, lemsip and tissues!). Fortunately I’d parked (perhaps “stopped” is a more accurate statement) with my back wheels in the gutter, thus allowing my car not to roll off while I was slowly wandering round Tesco. Anyway, I’m off to make more lemsip…. so… be nice.
Okay, first post in the new pyoor.org database. Lets all pray this works!

Hrm.
Moments in time:
Sometimes I forget the world sees me differently to the way I sometimes think I look in my head – I smile at someone and the “how I look” I think “shit, she’ll think I’m trying to pull” or something similar. And then I thing “feh, no, that’s *not* the way I look, and I don’t think I ever *really* looked like that”.
I think people were always a bit, well, didn’t think of me as that kind of ‘bloke’, that said I never was that kind of bloke so they’d’ve been right.
And then there’s moments when I’m hit by, well, how much I’ve changed, but only as an afterthought to what I’ve just done. Like getting dressed earlier, just slobby – teeshirt and jeans – and thinking putting on my green boots, and well, I dunno I thought I looked okay. And well. Yes. It was just nice.
The latter is more normal, and I often don’t really notice it. The former, well, it suprises me when it occurs. Occasionally, well, when someone said “oh, we’re all girls here” today, well, I thought “yay”….but there we go. It happens less and less that I notice it. Yeah. So.
Anyway, I went, err, shopping today. Kinda felt out of place, but still, did it – and I managed to get some of the best named snack bars I’ve encountered….

So there y’go.

Well, that and toast.
Isn’t it funny how you suddenly discover that you’ve been doing something wrong all this time.
I mean, is it really necassary to never leave my toaster alone? And why can’t I toast alumium foil in it? Surely that’s just poor design….
And in other news, I’ve been decorating the lounge. I am become Polyfiller Fairy, destroyer of cracks and filler of small (large) gaps. I’ve often wondered if it’s possible to build an entire house out of No-more-big-gaps filler. Now I’ve got the chance to find out, mwuahahahahaha.
Pfer. Knackered. Long day.
Tomorrow, though, will be a substantially longer day. But in a good way :-)

12/11/2002 Entry: “Another god-damn’d survey & more…”
So, here we go with an Xmas related survey. Don’t you just feel all seasonal now?
1. Real or artificial tree?
Real – am thinking will probably get one with roots next year and do the keep-the-same-tree-for-years trick.
2. Real or artificial wreath?
Neither
3. Open gifts on Christmas Eve or Christmas Day (or do you do another holiday such as Hannukkah)?
Xmas day, usually mid morning, just after the huuuge breakfast my dad used to do. But, things being a bit different this year, they’ll be opened mid afternoon – probably – when I get to my parents after work.
4. “It’s A Wonderful Life” or “Miracle on 34th Street”?
“The Nightmare before Christmas” and “The Snowman”/”Father Christmas” (I think that’s what it’s called, the Raymond Briggs one)
5. Outdoor decorations, or just indoors?
Indoor, paper decorations.
6. “Santa Claus Is Coming to Town” or “Rudolph The Red-Nosed Reindeer”?
“Fairytail of New York”
7. Miniature lights or the larger ones?
Small white lights, maybe. Used to do coloured ones, and have no huge objection to them.
8. Store-bought or hand-made ornaments?
Store bought, although my mum still has the ones that me and my sis made as children. You’ll notice a distinct absence of Angels, stars, and general-christian-related symbolism on our tree tho’ which is topped by a Robin :-)
9. TV Specials: The Grinch or Charlie Brown?
Dunno. Whatever is on, if I’m in the mood.
10. Will you be staying at home for the holiday, or going visiting?
Going to see my parents, also Aisling’s coming here shortly after Xmas, so we can have a second Xmas :-) – also there’s the probable-grandparent-related-presents which’ll arrive at some point.
It snowed yesterday, which was cold. I was actually bouncing along trying to catch snowflakes on my tongue (don’t tell me it’s cute behaviour, it’s not :-P ). Incidentally, I forgot to mention before, the webcam is back, now with added workitude….and my fingers are bloody cold. The heatings been on all day and it’s still cold. Feh.
And in the ‘sympathy’ stakes yesterday I ended up getting up an hour early for work (4:30, instead of 5:30) due to managing to hit hour-advance on my alarm clock and not realising until I’d got up, had breakfast, had coffee and then thought “right, time to get changed….”
Feh.
Still. Yes. Cold.
And this is funny. Well, it amused me. That comes via Lauren, incidentally….who is one of the two people I got presents for yesterday….Actually, the snow made me feel it was Xmas for the first time :-)
And, yes, hrm. Got my parents left to get presents for – well, I’ve got something small for my mum, but it’s not really enough. And I’ve not worked out what to get my dad – it’s a bit difficult, becuase he’s not really got that much enthusiasm and awakeness at the moment (with the chemo). With the scan result coming soon, we, well, we don’t know whether xmas will be a celebration, or a, well, sadder occasion.
Feh.
Oh, and one more link – you need flash for this one.
Incidentally, whoever it is who’s out buying *all the sodding cheap chests of draws in Bristol* can you *stop it please*. Having toured the environs of bristol, visiting such high flighing shops as “Furniture Land” (or possibly “Furniture lebensraum” given the nature of some of the fake-displays in the shop (that joke is from Jas, so don’t blame me ;-)) I’ve found a distinct lack of cheap new, or second hand, furniture. Which is frustrating.
All the shops that *look* like cheap-crap-furniture shops actually only do expensive crap, or expensive nice. Feh. And I tried MFI, and if I’m going to get something that crap I want it cheaper, okay?
Yes. So. Brr. It’s still cold. My hand’s are stopping working…I think I’ll go back to tidying.
