Studiously avoiding Amazon is pretty tedious

I try and avoid Amazon because of *reasons.

However: Ordering something 1 month ago and not receiving any kind of update like ‘this item is out of stock – we hope to get it ordered for you by X, alternatively if you wish to cancel the order please go here’. That would have been nice.

Also: Oh look, the book / film / album I want is unavailable on the search page… do you have any facility other than ringing up to find out if you can get it?

No.

*sigh*

My general experience, even with the ‘best’ of the other independents rapidly explains why I end up using Amazon.

Although now it’s turned into a battle of wills. I know I’ll cave eventually; but for a while at least, it’s on.

* Liking the authors I like and not the way amazon treats their publishers. Believing that companies should pay tax in the spirit of the tax law, not to the letter of it when they’ve wheedled out of it. Etc.
