To Kill a Mockingbird and Of Mice and Men ‘axed from GCSE syllabus’
Michael Gove has reportedly axed American classics Of Mice and Men and To Kill a Mockingbird from the GCSE English literature syllabus.
The Education Secretary “really dislikes” John Steinbeck’s classic tale of farm labourers George and Lennie, Of Mice and Men, and is keen to increase the number of British works studied by pupils.
One of the worst things this government has done is let Gove have free reign over education. He’s cutting money to standard state schools to give it to his personal vanity Free School project, now he’s designing the syllabus based on what he ‘really dislikes’ for fuck sake!
And before this he changed the history syllabus to again reflect his personal beliefs, removing important POCs and covering up the fault of the upper classes in the First World War.
Fuck Michael Gove as usual.
It’s going to be a generation of ill-educated children who’ve no idea what is going on in the entire rest of the world because this numpty has been allowed to completely fuck up the curriculum. Which given his view seems to be the superiority of Britain and the White English Person scares the pants off me given what’s happening in the UK and Europe at the moment.
