Why is it that men, at least men who do jobs involving, say, building or in this case working on cars, seem congenitally unable to listen to women. I’ve owned my car 13 years, nearly 14. I’ve worked on every single system on it; fuel, electrics, brakes; the only exception is steering which, apart from creasing some nipples now and then, has remained free of my tampering.
Why is it then, that when I say ‘don’t just adjust the brakes, please change the handbrake cables’ they appear to be unable to hear the words. Or at least they hear them, ignore them, and I come back and find that ‘oh, the handbrake cable was really slack, so I’ve just adjusted it up’.
ARGH!
I *know* it’s slack… that’s because IT KEEPS STRETCHING DUMBASS. I’ve adjusted it up, other garages, they’ve adjusted it up. I’ve adjusted the brakes, replaced the pads, greased the little slidey bits, checked the adjusters are coming on, even replaced a drum. They work fine on the footbrake – they work fine when you adjust up the handbrake, the problem is that the cable is probably fraying internally, and is stretching in use over increasingly short periods of time.
*sighs*
This happens every time I use a garage, and y’know what, I’m bored of it. It’s why I so rarely use garages; that and not trusting them at all. Oh, and having no money.
On the plus side my car now has a shiny shiny MOT and I can tax her for another year. Also need to sort out insurance… *sigh*
