Living beyond my means…

Heh.

Let’s describe today for you:

Well, I went to a automotive performance parts specialist to get a new air filter for my upgraded classic, nothing too exciting, just a Pipercross filter (we’re not extending to K&N at the moment, it’d probably be a bit excessive for an untuned A+ series engine anyway!); headed back and prepared myself a wrap for lunch – with some fresh chilled water on the side. I did some studying on my laptop, listened to some remixes by CCC on the hi-fi and then headed out, in the minor, to the swiming baths.

Spent a relaxing hour in an Edwardian swimming bath in North Bristol (very original place) before popping across the road and having a slice of carrot cake and a mocha in a little coffee shop. Well, I say in, we were outside in the sunshine!

Finally we did a bit of window shopping and looked at houses in the area before heading home.

Does that not sound like the lifestyle of the rich and wealthy?

Alternatively, we could describe it thus:

I picked up a cheap air filter (old stock) from a performance car place; cost me less than a new paper-element for the standard one! Still, it’s about 10 years old, but it’ll suit that pick-up 1.3 engine I stuck in Rebecca. Anyway, headed home, whipped a deli-wrap (mmm, morrison’s cheapest) out of the freezer and stuck some cheese in it, that with some salad an apple and a glass of nice cool tap-water made for a reasonably healthy lunch! Finally sat down with my (free) laptop and did some work; not a great deal but now remembering how to actually write the skills sheets…. which is good. Got about 10 to do. Merp.

Anyway, Lauren managed to coax me out to the swimming pool, Easton’s was shut today so we went to the faded grace of North Bristol; which is actually my kind of pool. Edwardian (defined as 1890’s-1914, apparently) faded elegance; peeling paint, curtains not quite on the rails and definately in need of some TLC. It is actually really nice, but the green mould growing on the grout in between the tiles, and the grotty bits of crud in the water were disconcerting. Especially as I swallowed a mouthful and my stomach hasn’t forgiven me yet.

Still, managed 20 widths and 8, I think, lengths – float in hand. Lauren got me to do a couple of lengths with only one hand on the float, the other doing a swimmy swimmy thing. Next time I might try and do swimmy swimmy things more. Flipping tiring though. Anyway, we did about an hour’s swimming, then wandered across the road (one of the main roads out of Bristol!) and Lauren kindly bought me a coffee & slice of cake outside a funky coffee shop (Coffee#1) and watched the cars go by.

Finally we wandered down and back up Gloucester road doing some window shopping thus killing time through the tail end of rush hour before heading back home.

So uh, the former is more like I feel. The latter’s a bit of a jaded view of a really nice day.

Actually, I think it’s really sad that they want to shut Bristol North Baths. I think it’s really sad that they’ve obviously, a long time ago, demolished the baths bit of Bristol North Baths – at least, that’s what Lauren and I suspect was where the carpark now sits. But at any rate, it’s still a fabby place that deserves to remain open. In fact, it deserves a good load of money spending – to refurbish the rather tatty toilets and give it a proper strip and clean. And some new curtains wouldn’t go amiss on the changing rooms.

Anyway, enough rambling.

My stomach’s still not forgiven me for that mouthful of water that I swallowed. I keep wanting to throw up; I’m not sure if I should just let it happen on the basis that if I still want to throw up after 2 hours, then I probably need to…? Ah well.
