Cleveland police officers recently killed a 37-year-old African American woman who died after police slammed her head on the concrete, just outside of her family’s home.
Her brother explained that Tanesha Anderson was pronounced dead at Cleveland Clinic after the assault by the Ohio cops. The pronouncement came early Thursday about two hours after the police “take down” caused Anderson to bash her head on the concrete outside of her home. ·
Because when tumblr talks about police brutality, it almost always seems to forget that women, especially black women are victimized too. The police often victimize black women using the same level of force they do black men, because black people in general are stereotyped as being aggressive, uncontrollable and ‘hyper masculine’.
The luxury of ‘gentility’ that extended to white women during arrest, is more often than not, like other privileges, denied to black women during detainment and arrest. This woman didn’t even survive to see a booking [ironically there shouldn’t/wouldn’t have even been a booking in this case]. The fact that the police were called to assist this woman, who was mentally ill, is further damning to the system., that often uses “protect and serve” as it’s motto.
The police come into these neighbors where people have been taught to trust them, yet have more reason to fear them. Usually, leaving more questions than answers upon departure.
The most prolific of questions being: protect and serve who?
