06/29/2002 Archived Entry: “An evening with Kate”
First up: Weird.
We had some guests yesterday – they stayed from about 8 ’til this afternoon about 2ish. They
didn’t realise they were spending an evening with several TS’s. That makes me very, very happy. I mean, yes, they were more geeky than most people I know, but then again that doesn’t really bother me – (I mean, when James came round he said we were geeky, but there were otherworldly quantities of geekishness in the room) – but it was quite cool not to be read despite spending hours talking about bikes, computers and engines :-)
And Yahoo!
Yahoo seem to have decided that I’m not to ever recieve any e-mails from their idiot-child-run groups system. This wouldn’t be quite so irritating but there’s one group I used to be on – I’d say I’m still on, I mean I’m a member twice, but neither of the memberships works. Not because there’s anything inherantly wrong with either of them.
One of them was set to the sell-my-details-to-every-spammerchent setting by Yahoo, who, since I’d forgotten the login and the password then refused to give me, or even *send* to me the login and or password for the account. Eventually, after some fairly harsh e-mails to their abuse desk I suddenly found the spam and the groups e-mail stopping. Any attempt to send to the group was met with “the e-mail address you are sending from is bouncing e-mail” e-mails, which was beyond ridiculous (because if it was bouncing e-mails what’s the point of sending an e-mail to a bouncing address to tell you it’s bouncing?)..
And it clearly wasn’t bouncing because I was getting the e-mails.
Anyway, so I thought “ah ha, I’ll create a new yahoo account, pointing at my e-mail, and if they’ve unregistered me then I’ll be able to register, and if not then I won’t”. Pah, foolish me for crediting yahoo with some form of competence. In fact I managed to register, eventually recieved the confimation e-mail (about 20 minutes after the html ‘click here’ to confirm you joined e-mail – which didn’t include the confirmation code. Woo.). Tried to join a group and was instantly told my e-mail address was bouncing.
If it was bouncing *how in hell did I get the confirmation e-mails you *incompetent f*ckwits*. Anyway, so I got Lauren to forward an e-mail saying “goodbye folks, nice to know you but as long as you keep using Yahoo I can’t be a member.
And finally in the catalogue of disasters – attempting to make the HCCS Vision 24 card work on a RiscPC. All I want is to make my rather nice ProShare camera into a webcam – although fuck knows why, the only people who still seem to read this are people who actually *live* with me. But anyway, I fancied doing that. *however* The card doesn’t work on a RiscPC with it’s ID Rom in (how do you fuck up writing something which just says “I’m a Vision 24 card” – ffs people, it’s *not* hard). And the software which is mostly completely incompatible with the RiscPC apart from *one*, yes *one* piece of software which won’t run if it can’t id the card. Argh.
Anyone else got any ideas? I have no money to spend on this so it’s gotta essentially be free.

I read this and don’t live with you.
In fact, if I remember correctly, I’ve only ever met you once anyway.
