They’re children of the great recession. And they are living in their parents’ basement, they feel that they got their education and the jobs that are available to them are not at all what they envisioned for themselves, and they don’t see much of a future.
If you’re feeling that you’re consigned to being a barista or some other job that doesn’t pay a lot and doesn’t have much of a ladder of opportunity attached to it, then the idea that maybe, just maybe, you could be part of a political revolution is pretty appealing. So I think we all should be really understanding of that, and we should try to do the best we can not to be a wet blanket on idealism.
Hillary Clinton’s ~secret insults~ about Sanders supporters, at a private fundraiser in February 2016.
This is what Trump and the GOP want you to be outraged about, y’all. The fact that Clinton accurately identified young people’s economic concerns & desire to be part of a revolutionary change, and was sympathetic about it.
She’s not making an argument for pragmatism, she’s not minimizing anything they experience or believe. Quite the opposite:
“We all should be really understanding of that, and we should try to do the best we can not to be a wet blanket on idealism.” – HRC
You know the only way – the ONLY fucking way – that this completely innocuous, sympathetic statement can be spun against her? If people don’t even listen to fifteen seconds of audio and just get mad.
That’s what they’re counting on, and the sad part is they’re right. Folks are gonna get pissy about “Hillary insulting Bernie supporters” even though she did precisely the opposite, because it works in Trump’s favor if he can alienate Bernie supporters from Hillary. Because people don’t even TRY to check the shit they see on twitter and facebook.
You’re already on the damn internet, people. CHECK YOUR FACTS.

Another thing to remember is that Hillary was born in 1947. When she was 20, it was 1967, and that was a time of some serious upheaval. If anybody would be sympathetic to people in their 20s nowadays, I’m thinking it would be her and Bernie.
