Contrary To Public Opinion

I was not 30 yesterday. Blimey, I’ve never seen it like that, y’know, staring at me. Oooh, that *is* a bit scary. In less than a year I won’t be in my 20s anymore.

How odd.

Anyway, I’m 29 now, as-of-yesterday. Thankyou all for your greetings, e-mails, cards and presents. My mom got me a funky bag – something less ruck-sacky for me to take to work and a new kitchen, well, when I finally get a quote. Kathryn got me a rather funky motorcycle-from-sparkplug model(?) (sculpture? piece of art :-) ).

Yesterday was a bit of an odd day, some of you know my dad’s birthday was three days before mine, and whilst I didn’t really mark the passing of that, other than with a few thoughts for my father, come my birthday – which kind of marked the end of the Elliott’s celebratory period – see, we’d always celebrate together, my dad and I, having a joint fun activity, cake and birthday dinner – well, I felt a bit, thoughtful.

Enough that one of the chaps at work asked me if I was okay, I kinda shrugged it off with tiredness, but really I was a bit distracted. My Birthday doesn’t entirely have happy memories for me anyway, my dad having collapsed a few years ago on my birthday – and us having spent the day in hospital. So, I kinda need distractions to keep me from dwelling on the bad things. At any rate, after work I headed off to my mom’s, which was somewhat tiring – I actually had to pull off the road and have a nap because I was starting to weave a bit while driving; never a good sign. Work is back to being exhausting, and that plus dealing with the car…
Nap done, I perked up and managed to make it to my moms, for presents, and assembling her TV stand, disassembling my dad’s old HiFi and swopping it for my mom’s new Kitchen midisystem. At any rate, my mom is happy with her new TV stand. James said it was kind of an odd birthday, but I always like doing stuff to make others happy. Of course, I’d still like to do a birthday dinner at some point :-)

In other news, I finally got the picture up in the stairs, I shall post a picture soonish. And I’ve pinched my dad’s old hifi – at least the amplifier and speakers. It’s a bit ‘flat’ compared to my old one, but hey. The speakers are, in fact, larger than my old Solovox ones, but they’re better quality and look a bit neater. I do need to get something somewhat smaller though.

Um, so yeah. Birthday was okay, not wildly brilliant but not awful… Mostly I’m looking forward to tomorrow… When I get to see Kathryn again :-)

Kate's allegedly a human (although increasingly right-wing bigots would say otherwise). She's definitely not a vampire, despite what some other people claim. She's also mostly built out of spite and overcoming oppositional-sexism, racism, and other random bullshit. So she's either a human or a lizard in disguise sent to destroy all of humanity. Either way, she's here to reassure that it's all fine.
