  • It GROWS

    So, the LGBTQ Film collection continues to grow with a bit of an order I placed. I’ve been looking for Cloudburst for a while and I finally found a non-Amazon company that says they have it in stock. They also have 52 Tuesdays available (the Region 4 edition) so hopefully that can wing its way over at the same time.

    Mind you, my previous non-Amazon order (from MovieMail) of ParaNorman has yet to arrive.

    I am quite looking forward to it. It would be doubly awesome if they arrive before we go on holiday so I can take them up to watch half way up a mountain :)

  • Oh, of course

    I finally steel myself to spend money on train tickets and go view these cars spending a day trailing all about Nodnol, and of course, can’t reach one vendor, another says the car’s still at the aircon service and the third is a car that I’m only interested in viewing if the other two are sheddy.

    Feh.

  • Having a plan

    So, I’m aware that I’m complaining about something I shouldn’t be complaining about. Buying a car. Most people don’t whinge half as much as I do about a simple process which is, frankly, a situation I should be grateful for, not one where I should be complaining. I have earned enough that I can borrow enough money to be able to buy a bottom of the barrel hybrid, or, were I less of a ethical person a pretty damn nice second hand car (actually, I could borrow much more than that and buy a much nicer car, I just don’t want to).

    Not phenominal, but something mid-range pleasant and a few years old.

    But I won’t.

    I want something that at least stands vaguely near my ethics. I am loathe to buy a car anyhow, I wish that the frickin’frakin’Austin had worked out better, but having spent the better part of a month in a garage waiting, waiting, waiting for it to be fixed I’m now forced to conclude that it’d be unwise to put it back on the road and then attempt to rack up infinite miles in it. Not because I don’t think it would cope. It probably would and probably would be adequately reliable. Until something important broke, and then I’d be back to ‘oh shit, I can’t earn anything’. This week, for example, I was intending to spend doing agency work. I’d set myself up mentally with ‘lots of agency shifts’. Now I could have hired a car for the week and done it, but it’d’ve cost me at least the entire value of a single shift and then I’d have the bonus paranoia of ‘I MUST WORK EVERY SHIFT’ to try and make the money back. And if I didn’t get a shift… ooh the stress.

    So I’ve been looking at cars.

  • Decisions, Decisons

    I’m trying to decide whether to go and look at cars tomorrow (preferable in terms of them not selling before I go look) or friday (more time for dongle and software to arrive).

    Both the Diagnostic Software and the cable say that they should be here today. It would be really nice to be able to turn up, plug in the cable and go ‘ah, no’ or ‘ah, let’s go for a test drive’ without faffing about with guesswork about the state of the batteries, or whether there are any known dubious faults with the car.

    In a way it’s good, it’s nice to have that reassurance that I can plug in a device and it should tell me lots of important things about the car, I’m not so reliant on listening and feeling for problems (a system that obviously worked so well when buying the Austin), but also it’s scary modern shit.
